Thomas and Sarah
« on: Friday 10 March 06 11:52 GMT (UK) »
Thomas Styles/Stiles born about 1760 married Sarah?. His Will states that he lived in Latton,Essex and was a brickmaker.  I can find no reference to Thomas in Latton records prior to the baptism of his son William in 1797.
One of the children was named Rachel Langley Styles and was born in 1804.
Is anyone researching the name Langley which could be Sarah's surname.  There is a very old story about the daughter of a household eloping with the gardener Could this have been Thomas?
All of the children of Thomas and Sarah were literate and signed their marriage certificates.
I have been searching for any information for a number of years so would be delighted to hear from anyone with an idea!

This is styles05.  I have found a son of Thomas and Sarah Styles who was born in 1803.  At the age of 19 he was executed for burglary in Latton, Essex.  I have found some information in the Chelmsford Chronicle of March 1812. From this I find he was executed on 28th March 1812.  The Essex Assizes for Chelmsford are kept at TNA and I am unable to visit there.  Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can find ther details of the burglary and the trial?

Tom. I can't tell you how pleased I am to receive your message.  I have been trying to find this information for a considerable time with no success.
Thank you very much. I will certainly look the transcript up as suggested.

Regards
Jean

I was so pleased to be able to help you. You will find that database of newspapers very useful; even the Times is good as well, particularly if any of your relations worked in the Civil Service or the Armed forces as their appointments were always in the Times.
