Hi Tsumi,

Many force records and papers  for Cumberland are held by the Cumbria Archive Service. See here - http://www.cumbria.gov.uk/archives/

If they do have police personnel records from 1908 be aware that some areas operate a 75 yr closure rule  but in others it can be 100 yrs.

There is also a police museum at force HQ:

Police Headquarters,
Carleton Hall,
Penrith,
Cumbria,
CA10 2AU.

Telephone 01768 891999

It is always worth contacting the museum as sometimes the old records may be split with the museum holding personnel records and ledgers while crime papers and other docs go to the CRO.

Regards,

Richard

Hi,
My GG Grand father was a constable in the Cumberland and Westmoreland Constabulary, and he died (burst apendix) in his police house near Longtown in 1906.
The County Archives had his papers and I purchased a copy for less than £7.
