Hi Brian W,

I've had a look on the Bertram Merrell index and the only marriage I could find pre or close to 1830 is Thomas Warburton, Farmer to Elizabeth Ellams 25 Jul 1829 at Chester St Peter which doesn't look very likely.  They'd be more likely to marry from the brides parish but this isn't always the case.

He would be very young if he married in 1829/1830, where have you found the information on the first child, and what was the name?  I thought I'd found him on the 1851 and 1841 census as a cordwainer, have I got the right one, because the eldest child there looks to be Margaret born c1834.

There is a marriage on the IGI (familysearch) site for a Thomas Warburton to Elizabeth Blackshaw on 27 Jan 1833 at Manchester Cathedral.  It caught my eye because I have Blackshaw's in my tree and one of the areas they are from is Mobberley.

Hope this helps and doesn't confuse things even more!

Hi Jean

Thank you! :) That is a big help, and actually better than I deserve, as in ruffling through my notes I somehow managed to conflate two of my sets of ancestors - the only excuse is that they were roughly contemporary and both lived in the Alty area.

I am reasonably sure that the Warburton/Blackshaw marriage is the one I was after, as the Elizabeth I was seeking came from Mobberley.

Apologies for giving false info - I shall try not to be so careless in future.

Hi Brian,

Don't worry, easily done!! Do you already have the 1841 & 1851 census records?  I'm only guessing with the Blackshaw marriage as I know that there were Blackshaws from Mobberley.

Hope you can help.

Information I have gleaned from a variety of sources

William Bancroft and Mary Moorcroft were married 30 Sep 1804, Farnworth, Nr. Prescot, Lancs. They had daughter Sarah, Warrington, 3 Jul 1810.
Sarah married William Turner, Whitesmith, b c 1811 (not in county as per 1841 census) William died prior to 1851 census. Oldest child, Thomas, born 1830.
Other possible children 1841, William, Richard, Mary Ann, Sarah, Caroline.

A marriage for Sarah and William might point me in the direction of William's roots.

Thank you.

Beth
