Bernard,
If you do go to CRO to check on your other marriages and have time, look for the baptism of Thomas Stanway b.1835/6 in the "Auxilliary Baptism Registers" for St Helen's, Witton. These registers not only give the parents name/abode but also that of both sets of grandparents. Therefore if Thomas WAS baptised at Witton you would confirm Catherine's maiden name in these registers.  ;)
Good Hunting,
Odessa.

Has child, David born 12/3/1843
It is believed they lived at Eldon Street, Warrington

Hi
    Welcome
This record of Johns marriage was found on the http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk

Cheshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1839
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
ARMITAGE John HEYES Ellen Warrington, St Paul Warrington C27/1/111

What census records do you have, that should give an indication of where and when born,so assisting in tracing his birth records. The wedding certificate will give you his fathers name, this also should help in IDing the correct Armitage.
Good luck, and please get back if you need anything else

hi chris  delighted you have access to cheshire parish records, i was in touch with you acouple of weeks ago before i went on hols.
my great grand parents were married in stockport parish church may 29th 1881, i have the cert, mary ellen pickston 22 spinster queen st stockport married james flanagan 30 bachelor,  queen st  stockport,
father of mary ellen joseph pickson, have not been able to trace him or Mary ellen's birth, on the census of 1881 she is living in queen st domestic sevant, place of birth given as salford.
james's father john deciced on cert, james's mother mary remarried we think a george lester, as on the 1881 census, a month previous to the wedding, james was living with his mother mary lester, at 1 barns court chestergate stockport. it states james was born in stockport. my information from a decieced uncle was james was brought over from ireland by his stepfather a bit confusing, as most of these things are, i suppose he could have been born in stockport and then gone over to ireland with his parents, but there wasn't  many people going  back to ireland  in those days, so that is as far back as i have got with my tree, hope you can help. breda

Hi Chris,

If you are able, would you please look up 2 marriages for me.

Unfortunately, I do not have the maiden name of the bride but I do have baptism details for their children.

1.
Henry Darbeshire of Ashton upon Mersey and Alice ?.
The earliest baptism I can find in the Ashton upon Mersey parish register is Aug 9 1735 (born July 30).  I think that Henry or Hen:, as he was shown in the parish register, was born in 1707, son of Richard Darbeshire.

and

2.
James Darbyshire and Ellen? also of Ashton upon Mersey.  Their eldest son Philip was baptised Dec 5 1813 in Ashton upon Mersey.  Father James was born in 1789, son of Philip & Margaret Darbyshire.

Thanking you in advance.

cheers

Hi Maxine
Sorry there is no index in the Cheshire Bertram Merrill parish records for either of the two marriages.

Most grateful if you could have a look amongst the Parish records for Marton-by- Congleton and Siddington for any information on the Potts  (or Pott) family.  I understand that there was a Joseph Pott(s) who was Parish Clerk at Marton in the early 1800's. Tks

Hi Peter,

I've traced my Cartwright line to a William Cartwright who was reportedly born in Nantwich (although the 51 and 61 censuses have his birthplace as Willaston) in approx. 1796 (he died in December 1873 aged 77 on his Death Certificate, although aged 80 in the Parish Records).

But then the line goes cold.

Do you have any marriages that might help me trace his parents?

Or do you have either of his marriages? He was first married to an Ann Davies who was buried 18.8.1827 aged 34. He then married Martha Brown, who was buried 29.1.1866, aged 61.

I would be grateful for any help.

Thankyou

Neil Cartwright
