Hi Cara,

thank you for this I wasn't aware that Poynton church lost the right to conduct marriage services. I wonder why?

I have a feeling Robert and Betty may have married at St mary's Cheadle. Would that sound right for a couple living in Worth or Poynton, do you think?

Regards

Jean Sandra

jean sandra,
I asked the very helpful lady at Poynton library the same question and all she was able to tell me was that the church 'lost the right' to conduct marriages between those dates

Hi Cara

The Cathedral in Manchester was dedicated to Saints Mary, Dennis and George and wasn't known as the Cathedral until 1847.

Hi Jeansandra

There is no mention of a Robert Eccles marrying a Betty or Elizabeth in Cheshire after 1615.

peterbennett
Peter,
That is interesting - the first two (four?) family members I came across who were married at 'Manchester Catherdral' were married in 1838.  I have just looked at the actual certificate again and I can not make it out to read anything other than ***** parish church with no sign of any saints or Sts.  I am going to post a scan of it tonight to see if anybody on here can read it.   :)
Regards,

Hi Jen

There is a marriage for them indexed at St Albans Tattenhall dated 26/2/1824, it states Ann is from Waverton (parish of Tattenhall)

You will have to apply to the Cheshire RO for a full transcript of the marriage, they do not usually charge if you give them all the above information. There is an email address in the link below.

regards

peterbennett

Thanks so much Peter, I will get in contact with the Cheshire RO  ;D

Hi again Peter,

The info you gave me on my Warburton's has set me off on another lead and I wonder whether you could check your marriage registers for the following:

Peter Warburton and Mary Morgan married pre 1793 probably in Tattenhall

Peter Warburton and Maria Harding married pre 1817 probably in Tattenhall

Thanks so much, now I feel like I am finally getting somewhere  ;D

Hi

I have only found a marriage for Peter and Mary Morgan at St Albans Tattenhall 11/12/1792 by licence.

No other P.W. marriages at Tattenhall to anyone, or to a Maria Harding at any Cheshire church, there is a member submitted marriage for these two in the IGI it is dated for 6/June/1816 at St Johns Chester. It needs checking out at the records office, its possible it was missed of my index.

Hi

I am stumbling over a family of Whistons as there are no marriages on the IGI for me to tie up.

Robert and Ann Whiston (no marriage found possibly 1740 - 1743) had the following children:
William 1744
Ann 1746
Mary 1747
Samuel 1748
Robert 1750
Jane 1751 - All were baptised at St. John's, Chester.

Would be very grateful if any marriages could be found, especially hoping they are in County!

Many thanks for any help.
