Hi Chris

I am hoping you will be able to help me.  I am looking for the marriage of James Dawson and Catherine in Macclesfield or Tytherington, Macclesfield around 1820`s.  I know from the 1841 Census that Catherine was not born in the County but I am hoping that they were married in Cheshire.

Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks

Wattsy

I have found a record of a marriage at Leek Staffordshire of James Dawson Inn keeper widower and Catherine Low on the 21/Aug/1836 by licence.

Pott Shrigley, Prestbury Parish, St. Christopher's - William Hallam, son of John and Hannah Hallam, was christened 18 April 1819. He had a brother James who was christened in May 1816. I have no idea if there were other children of John and Hannah. Would it be difficult to check for a marriage of John Hallam and Hannah [--?--] at Pott Shrigley from, say, 1800 on? I hope I'm not sending you on a wild goose chase.       Eve

Hi Eve
           Welcome to rootschat  :)
The IGI at the link below indicates these baptisms (as well as the ones you have) to John and Hannah

Elizabeth 4/March/1810  Henry 25/Oct/1812

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

I have found a record  John Hallam (blacksmith) marr Hannah Lomas at Prestbury 12/May/1795 both parties of Pott Shrigley.

There is also another record of a John Hallam (blacksmith) marr Peggy Hooley 11/July/1786 at Prestbury

children to John and Peggy baptised at Pott Shrigley,

Betty 1/July/1787  Mary 7/March/1790  Milly 13/March/1792.

hope this helps

Hi June
So sorry I did not reply earlier  :-[ but I could not find a marriage on any indexes that I have for Cheshire. I did wonder if they had married in Liverpool which would not be unusual, and found a marriage at St Nicholas between a James Crowder and a Mary Rogers dated 9/Jan/1815, I checked the births in the parish register for Neston and found a Mary Rogers baptised 3/March/1793 father John mother Margaret.
I could not find a marriage or death for this Mary Rogers in Cheshire prior to 1815 so its possible she could be the one, but how to prove it I don't know, the St Nicholas parish records may hold the answer.
I also noted that James and Mary had children named John and Margaret, mind you with ten children the odds are in favour of a match.
Can I suggest you place a request on the Lancashire board and see what can be found.

good luck

peterbennett
