Hi Cheshire Researchers

I have access to the Marriage Registers for all 5 volumes of W.P.W Phillimores Cheshire Parish Record Transcripts. Marriages only

The dates covered are 17th and 18th Century

If you require me to look through these records for an ancestor of yours, please supply as much information as possible; and I will try to oblige

Hi Chris

We are trying to find the maiden name of an Ann Hardern married to Thomas Hardern around 1820.  On the 1841 census they were living at Betchton Sandbach.  We did find an Ann Massey that married a Thomas Hardern, but there may have been others.

Thanks

Bri

Hi Jean

Could you see if you can find the marriage of a Hickson to a Sarah between 1790-1803 in Rostherne? They have a daughter Eliza, born in 1804 in Rostherne, who married Thomas Burgess in 1825 in Rostherne.

Thanks, Kate

Hi

I would be grateful if you could check out a marriage for me.
William Gibbons born about 1810 (spelling variant Gibbins) and Elizabeth ? born about 1816 and various census' state both were from Culcheth.
They lived in the area called Culcheth near Warrington, which was under Lancashire but changed to Cheshire when the boundaries moved.
William and Elizabeth had their first two children called Hannah b.1835 and Ann b.1837 whilst in Culcheth. Their third child called James born 1840 in nearby Rixton, but by the 1841 census they had moved to Lower Peover and Allostock in East Cheshire where they stayed and had several children. William is described as a farmer in the census'.
I would imagine the marriage to have taken place in Culcheth or Winwick in about 1834.
Many thanks.
Anje

Hi Anje,

Sorry but there is nothing in the Cheshire marriage indexes.  I also looked at the Lancashire OPC site and there are some marriages for Winwick (and for Warrington) transcribed but nothing for your couple.

Sorry I couldn't help,

Jean

Hello Bri,

The marriage you have found is the only likely one that I can see on the index:

Thos HARDERN, farmer m Ann MASSEY, sp 1 Feb 1820 at Sandbach by license.

Hi Kate,

The closest is this:

Charles HICKSON, wdwr, of Weaverham m Sarah BOARDMAN, wdw 27 Jan 1791 at Gt Budworth

But as they had both been married previously I would suspect they would be too old to have a child in 1804.  I think I can see Charles previous marriage in 1770 at Weaverham.

I'd suggest that you see if you can find the baptism of Eliza so you have her father's name.

Thanks, Jean. You are likely right. My Sarah Hickson was born about 1773 and unlikely to be widowed and remarried by 1791.

Thanks for trying, Kate

Hi, and thank you for your kind offer of lookups for Cheshire marriages. Could you please look for the following?

George Rathbone b abt 1802 in Clotton, m Ann b abt 1811. Possible first child born 1829 in Delamere.

Thomas Rathbone (father of above) b abt 1785 in Kelshall, m Ann b abt 1783 in Burton. George, above, appears to be their first child.

Regards,

BritCanadian

Hi and thank you for the offer of look ups.

Are there any marriages for Broughton or any mis-spellings such as Brewerton/ Brearton/ Bruton etc. for Wilmslow or Prestbury please.

Thank you in anticipation.
Best Regards from Colin
