Burges(s) is her maiden name,  Her baptism and those of her son (also John) were at Gee Cross Unitarian, Hyde, Cheshire.  She is reported as Jenny when her son is baptised but there is a Jane in the 1841 census living next door to John and Martha (she was Ashworth and we have all the details on them) in Compstall (the 'we' is my 3rd cousin Dot-I'm also Dot- in USA and 3rd cousin x2removed in Ireland)
Jane who is in Compstall in 1841 census has 3 daughters whose names all repeat in subsequesnt generations PLUS 2 of these daughters were baptised on the same day as their Nephew (my gt grandfather) all were non-conformist baptisms.
I hope that helps.

Hi Kate,

Sorry I have checked and can't see anything.  I know that Tarvin isn't very well covered, I had to go to the parish register films at Cheshire Records Office to find mine there.

Sorry I can't be of more help - and welcome to Rootschat!

Hi :)

Can I ask for another look up please?

If you have Warrington, can you look for the marriage of Peter Winpenny 1796 please?

Thanks very much,

regards,

sigrid

Hi sigrid,

Nothing showing for this marriage.  Lancashire OPC are putting the Warrington St Elphin records online, but haven't got to the year you are looking for yet - worth checking back as they are updated regularly: http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Warrington/index.html

I did see this and wonder if it is the same Winpenny family:

John WINPENNY, tea dealer of Northwich, son of Peter and Alice WINPENNY of Marbury m Alice METCALF 7 Feb 1827, Morley Quaker

Hi Jean,

many thanks for looking and for the additional advice. Apologies for not replying sooner - I didn't get notification of your reply, so checked on rootschat just in case. Good job I did! Not sure about John - I haven't got a baptism for him - but  99.99% certain he is from the same family.

Much appreciate your help,

regards,

sigrid

Hi

I would be grateful if you could check out a marriage for me.
William Gibbons born about 1810 (spelling variant Gibbins) and Elizabeth ? born about 1816 and various census' state both were from Culcheth.
They lived in the area called Culcheth near Warrington, which was under Lancashire but changed to Cheshire when the boundaries moved.
William and Elizabeth had their first two children called Hannah b.1835 and Ann b.1837 whilst in Culcheth. Their third child called James born 1840 in nearby Rixton, but by the 1841 census they had moved to Lower Peover and Allostock in East Cheshire where they stayed and had several children. William is described as a farmer in the census'.
I would imagine the marriage to have taken place in Culcheth or Winwick in about 1834.
Many thanks.
Anje
