Hi Jean,

You are a star!

I had no idea Fanny and Francis were interchangeable (you learn something new everyday!).

Have not found him on the census as I don't have access.  I don't belong to any of the fee-paying sites (there are too many to contemplate joining!) but will keep on looking and will ask on the request board.

Thank you so much.

Jackie

Hello

I have Hannah YARWOOD born about 1839 in Motttram St Andrew, Cheshire.  I cannot find her parents marriage, so must be before 1837.

Please could you check and see if you can find a marriage for

William YARWOOD and Edna HOLT.

(William was born Morley, Cheshire about 1821 and Edna was born Alderley Cheshire about 1817 (daughter of Josiah Holt).

Thank you
Joan

Hello Joan,

Sorry but that marriage isn't on the index.

Newbie here with a request for a look up!

I've had no luck trying to trace the marriage (if it existed) of:

Edward CHESTERS and Ann(e) CHESTERS - probably around 1835/6 maybe in Chester.

Their son George CHESTERS was baptized 1836 at St Mary on the Hill Chester.  Parents = Edward and Anne.

I suspect George was base born yet there is no note on the baptismal record to suggest this.

My reasoning is that his parents were not recorded as living together in the 1841 census or any census report since then but his father was still alive in 1866 and listed on George's marriage certificate.
The 1851 census gives his mother's status as "unmarried".
His mother Anne appears to share the same surname as her son's father = CHESTERS as her father was a John CHESTERS.

Of course the possibility exists that the father's name was not CHESTERS and George assumed his mother's maiden name.

I'm wondering if the record index lists brides maiden names?

I've had no luck finding either party in the CPRdb marriages.

Very grateful for your help here!

On the Cheshire parish Register Project there is a marriage by license, 16 Nov, 1810, between Neston Bayley, Gentleman, and Jane Fowls, both of Nantwich. Both signed their name. Witnesses were Anne Cobbe and William Cobbe. Celebrant Antho Clarkso

Hello Cilla and a warm welcome to Rootschat!

I've had a good root around my resources but can't find a likely marriage for you.  The baptism would tend to suggest that they were married.  Did they have any more children after the introduction of civil registration?
