Peter,

Can you tell me which church would be the local one to Sale in 1800. It seems most of them did not exist then and I am getting very confused between the various old parishes.

I have found a marriage on the IGI index that mentions St Mary's Manchester. Would this be the same as St Mary's Bowden?

Hi Mable
Not sure there is a place called Coppeshall in Cheshire, did you mean Coppenhall ? if so then there are two, one in Staffordshire and Monks Coppenhall Nr. Crewe in Cheshire.

All the BMD records for Cheshire after 1837 can be found on this link

http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/

Also the same for some areas of Staffordshire I am not sure if Coppenhall as been indexed as yet

If you need any further help then please reply.

Hi
St. Mary's Manchester was not associated with St. Mary's Bowden.
If your looking for Sale prior to 1840 ish it was a township in the parish of "Ashton upon Mersey, St. Martin (C of E), Church Lane. An ancient parish, comprising most of the township of Ashton upon Mersey, and the whole of Sale township. Registers of baptisms 1636-1960, marriages 1636-1947 and burials 1636-1939 are at the CRO. Bishop's transcripts survive from 1605. Memorial inscriptions have been published by the FHS of Cheshire."
The above is a quote from Genuki.
I believe a small section of A-u-M was in the parish of Bowden but if its Sale your after then I would plump for St Martins.

good luck and don't forget where we are if you need any further help.

Hello Chris,

Wonder if your Cheshire disk might have details of the birth of a William Lamb circa 1805.  He was born somewhere called Tabley, Cheshire (which I think is near Knutsford).

If it has marriages, I'd be also be interested to know the surname of the lady called Jane that he married sometime between 1825-29.

Best wishes,

Gordon.

Hi Gordon
Sorry the index is marriages only, and there is no record of a marriage for William Lamb, tried various spellings.
Do you have early census records ? If not I may be able to help if they were in Cheshire.

Hello Peter,

Very much appreciate the offer. Only info I have is from '71 census of Barton upon Irwell, Salford which shows William 66, a gardener, born Tabley Cheshire and wife Jane 73 born Chesterfield Derbyshire.  He probably never returned to Cheshire.

But thank you for your help,

Gordon.
