Cheshire Parish Records Marriages only pre 1837

Thank you so much for responding to my post.  I appreciate knowing about the indexes to marriages for the Cheshire area.  I have lots of family that come from Cheshire so that will be a great help.  I think the "p. Sw" meant that she was from Swettenham.

My ggg-grandparents, James TRAVIS and Elizabeth (or Betty) WILD were married in Mottram in Longendale on 8 Oct 1825.  I was wondering if the parish register shows names of witnesses or any additional details at all?

Hi Arkay,

The entry on the index doesn't contain any more information.  The parish register will contain witnesses at the very least, although they may not be related.  If you contact Cheshire Records Office (website: http://www.cheshire.gov.uk/recoff/home.htm) they would be able to provide a copy of the parish register entry for a small fee, and you can order online.

Thanks for your reply to my Dean request. I have access to the 1851 census without any joy in finding my names. None of them admit to being born in Bollington anyway.

I have a copy of Bertram Merrill and Phillimore, but is there some other CD I could buy that would enable me to search for marriages in Prestbury Parish? Thank you for your time.

Hi Rosndel,

There is another CD available from Cheshire FHS which is the NECMI (North & East Cheshire Marriage Index).  The coverage of marriages for Prestbury is complete from 1754 to 1837.  However, try here: http://www.rootschat.com/links/02s4/ - the lds have digitised some Cheshire parish records and Prestbury is amongst them but I don't know what dates are covered.

Your help needed please. I am looking for the marriage of Robert Boffey and Sarah Boffey. Robert first married Catherine Boffey (sister) in 1824 and they had 2 children (1824 and 1826). Not sure when Catherine died but the first baby registered with Sarah was 1833. They lived in the Sanbach area.
