Hi Jean

I think you might have cracked it.  I'm hoping now to find out if they had children to see if they match with mine?

Thanks for your help.

Hello Chris,

Could you please look for the marriage of Jesse or James HOPLEY to Jane ROBINSON in the early 1830s.  To the best of my knowledge their first child was born 1832 Weaverham, Cheshire.  Jane's mother was Mary ROBINSON.

Many thanks for your generous lookup offer.

Oh, you are wonderful Jan, thanks so much for finding the HOPLEY & ROBINSON marriage.

Could you please tell me if there were any other HOPLEY or ROBINSON marriages around that time??  as I dont know who Jesse and Jane's siblings were.  Also were there any other HOPLEY children born to Jesse and Jane??

Many thanks,
Marg S

Hi Marg,

I can't see anything obvious, but there are hundreds of Robinson marriages as you can imagine.  As they married by licence it could be that neither of them were from the parish.  You could contact Cheshire Records Office by email and ask for the details of the marriage entry which might give useful witnesses, or see if you can get a copy of the marriage licence.  You can order copies online via the website for a small fee.

I'd post a separate lookup for baptisms of the children - possibly at Weaverham as that is where the children seem to be born.

Hope this helps,

Jean

Dear all,

I'm not sure what information is available about marriages in the records that people have, so apologies in advance if I'm asking for something that's not possible!

I have a marriage between Samuel Edwards and Catherine Lewis (my 4xgreat grandparents) at Tarvin on 2 April 1818. There is a user submitted entry for this marriage on the IGI, and I've had a family bible transcript sent, so I'm pretty sure it's the right one for me.

I have two questions really. The first is, is it possible from the records that people have to see the names of Samuel and Catherine's parents' or at least father's names?

Secondly, if it is, would it also be possible to see Ann Edwards - married Thomas Peacock at Tarvin either Jan or Jun 1807  and Elizabeth Edwards who married John Cawley at Tarvin on 5  January 1790.

This would all help in tying people into - or not - a set of Edwards' wills I have.

Sorry this is so long, and thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

Best wishes

Andy

Hi Andy,

The sources of information are indexes so don't contain much more than you can see on the IGI although there is occasionally more information.  It is unlikely that the parents names will be given but there may be witnesses that would help - the marriage may also be by licence so you may get further information from that.  Anyway, some information I have found:

Ann EDWARDS m Thomas PEACOCK 18 Jun 1807 Tarvin St Andrew by licence

Neither of the other marriages appear on the index - it is by no means complete.

It might be worth sending off to Cheshire Records office for copies of the parish entries as you have the dates - you can order copies online for a small fee.  The witnesses may help you to piece the information together.
