I seem to have got my Chris and Peter missed up - sorry about that Peter!

The 1841 details showing Mary Kelsall as a widow are the correct family but I don't have much information to work on. Jonathan Kelsall was the son of Mary and Henry but was not living with the family in 1841.

I know Henry was the father of Jonathan, but I don't know the maiden name of his mother Mary or where she was from so I'm clutching at straws here!

I wonder if you would be kind enough to check one more of the clan - John Kelsall who married Charlotte  around 1837. Both John and Charlotte were born in Sale and both buried at Timperley, so the parish of marriage is possibly Sale. I'm afraid that I do not know the maiden name of Charlotte.

Many thanks for your help so far. I do appreciate it.

Regards,

Maureen

Hi Moureen

The main reason I asked about that particular Mary Kelsall and family is that I did a search of "Kelsall + variations in the marriage index) and found at St Mary Lymm a marriage dated 9/Feb/1813 between a Henry Kelshaw and Mary Bell. This looked to me as if it may be mistranscription or the registrar misheard the name. I searched through the 1841 and could find no match for the Kelshaw's or other Kelshaws in the area. But did spot the Mary Kelsall and family, I believe this could your Henry and Mary. Having then spotted a death for Henry Kelsall in Lymm 1837 it again adds to the suspicion that Henry Kelshaw was in fact Henry Kelsall.

Agden as you proberbly know is next to the township of Lymm

John Kelsall married a Charlotte Goodier at Manchester Cathedral 4/Nov/1835, it was not unusual to find Cheshire folk marrying there especially if it needed to be a arranged quickly or a cheap midweek one.
4/Nov/1835 was a wednesday.  Found the marriage in

hope this helps

Hi Peter,

Thank you for all the information you sent.

Henry Kelsall/Kelshaw's marriage at Lymm looks a distinct possibility.

I found John and Charlotte Kelsall's marriage on 'Family Search' and it gave the marriage date as about 1837 - didn't think of looking further! I'm not sure whether this family is a direct link with Henry so will have to do further research on that one.Interesting that you could get a cheap midweek marriage at the Cathedral  - Wow!

Again very many thanks for all your help Peter

Best wishes,

Maureen

Hi

Think your right with Elizabeth, found this marriage dated 29/December/1793 at Bunbury Thomas to Betty Wilson.
There are no other marriages in the right time frame for a Thomas Badcock

Hi Peter

This marriage would seem to be the one - many thanks.

I would value your opinion on the following.

I have been searching for a marriage for John Edwards and Mary in the Peckforton area. You have helped in the past and I have searched parish registers as well but no joy so far. Through census and searching parish records I have found what I'm pretty sure is a 2nd marriage for Mary Edwards (nee Badcock - father Thomas) in 1841 in Bunbury and she seems to fit. Can't find a baptism for her but on 24 Feb 1799 (which would be a very good fit) there was a baptism of Mary Badcock d/o of John Badcock and also a baptism for William s/o Thomas Badcock (Both in Bunbury). What are the odds on the vicar mixing up the fathers??

Hi Chris
Could you possibly help me. I am searching for the marriage of Ann Mottershead born about 1820 Macclesfield and Samuel Maurice born about 1823 of Wilmslow.
He was a corn and cheese factor and died 1881. Ann died in 1890.
             Their children were James Samuel,
                                              Elizabeth Ann
                        and                Mary Emily

                                 Thanks

Hi John,

The only marriage I can see is at www.cheshirebmd.org.uk of Samuel MAURICE and Ann FODEN at Macclesfield St Paul in 1851.  This is also on www.freebmd.org.uk.  Where did you find the surname MOTTERSHEAD?

Thanks very much. I wonder if  Ann Mottershead
was married previously to '?  Foden' and then remarried in 1851 to a Samuel Maurice.

In 1851  census it gives John Mottershead b1792 as father-in-law to Samuel Maurice.

Can you find any information of a marriage between  an Ann Mottershead b 1821 and ? Foden.

           Thanks for all your help.
