I have Hugh Berry born 1777 (and probably married) in Over Peover. I have no record of his wife. Also, his father Edward Berry was born in Great Budworth in 1730 but married a lady (again unknown) from Over Peover. Additionally, Edward's father Peter Berry was born in Great Budworth and may well have married there. Would it be possible to check the weddings oracle for these people? I would be very grateful for wives names and dates of marriages. In addition, given that both places were villages of under 400 people, it would be nice to know of any other Berrys in these parishes (siblings or forebears).

Many thanks

Hi Nick

There are a great deal of Berry marriages in Cheshire but no Hugh sorry.
As for the rest of the Berry marriages I would be willing to print them off and let you have them see PM

Hi Peter,

I guess my hunt for Maria Williams in Sutton is problematic.  Too many Williams and too many Suttons!

Would it be possible to find her sister instead.

Harriett Williams born Parkgate Cheshire in c1824 (calculated from 1881) or c1831 (calculated from 1871) She was a servant in 1871 and head of her own house in 1881, so I feel the 1881 date is likely to be more accurate.

I don't have any proof that she ever married, she was still single on the 1881 census at age 56.

Her father was Robert Williams (from her sister's marriage certificate).  He was a farmer.

Thanks

Sue

Hi Sue
            Problematic yes definatly
I have not forgot and have a list of Williams to search, I think from what you have said, that, the Williams family originated from the Pargate/Sutton area of the Wirral I have searched all the Suttons Cheshire in the 1851 census which is the only name (surname only ) indexed census before the 1871 with no luck, but there is no way of knowing when they moved to Liverpool. There are approx 700 individual census pages containing at least one Williams in the Wirral/Birkenhead area, and there is no index at all for the 1841.
There are only 2 Maria's born in Cheshire between 1840 and 1845 according to the Cheshire Bmd one in Altringham and one in Runcorn I have searched the 1851 and found both of these niether has a father named William, so although your Maria states she was born Sutton Cheshire she was not registered there ??

sorry for the negative reply but I feel that a search of the 1861 Liverpool and backwards from there is your best option

regards

Hi Jackie
Yes you have done it right, unfortunatly the records index I have is for marriages only, so I had a look for him in the 1841 census and found him in Hall Green Odd Rode (see scan if you have any problems reading it let me know )

regards

Hi John
Sorry cant seem to tie in a marriage at that time in the runcorn area, is there a chance John and Ann came from another parish ?
