Some time ago Peter generously searched the marriage index for Joseph Weedall but was unable to find him.

After much searching on the LDS site I've found the following marriage which looks promising but is a patron submitted entry with no source details.

Joseph Widdall / Elizabeth Widby 16 April 1810 Sandbach

I would be very appreciative if these names could be checked in the index.

Hi Linda,

The index has Jos WIDDALL m Eliz WIDBY 16 April 1810 at Wilmslow

Hi Chris....wonder if you would be able to help out with these two? I don't know birthplaces but have a little info on children.

William Derbyshire (b abt 1781, ag labourer) marriage to Martha (b abt 1776)

They had William Derbyshire (b abt 1814 in Marple) and possibly Benjamin Derbyshire b abt 1811 also in Marple. I don't know of any other children but there could be.  1811 is the earliest I have. I am hoping the marriage may have been in Marple but of course could have been somewhere else.

They lived in Marple for a while and then moved to Bollington pre 1841 where the family settled until the 1880s. Later descendants  (eg William 1814) married and I believe also buried at Prestbury Parish Church but I don't know about William and Martha themselves.

Thanks  :)

Hi

This one looks as if it could be yours datewise, at Stockport 27/Nov/1809 William Derbyshire husbandman and Martha Richards widow.
There is only one other possible in the area dated 10/July/1803 William a stationer and Martha Rothwell also at Stockport.

Checked all the various spelling of the name Mourice and found this one at Wilmslow dated 11/July/1808 James Morris and Hannah Hatton

nothing certain, but hope it helps

Hi Peter,

A while ago you very helpfully suggested the above marriages for William and Martha Derbyshire.  Well I went to Chester RO last week and looked for their children's baptisms and the first born appears to be in 1810 which fits well with the Martha Richards marriage in 1809.  I found the original for that but it didn't add very much. Nothing else came up so it's looking very likely.

It says she is a widow and I was wondering if you would be able to check and see if there are any options for her first marriage? Sorry - there's not much to go on I know.   I'm thinking there may have been half siblings to be found which could throw up some more clues.

Thanks

Hi Millymcb

There are two possible for a first marriages in Cheshire, of ( ..... ? Richards and a Martha .....? )

Benjamin Richards weaver of Bollington and Martha Shaw of Tytherington 22/1/1805 at Prestbury.

Jas Richards Scissors manufacturer and Martha Chew 15/Oct/1792 Stockport.

The 1841 census seems to suggest that Benjamin may still be alive, living alone in Adlington born c1770. He is still around in 1851 in Adlington 78 and a retired farmer born Rugeley Staffordshire.
So maybe you can rule out the Benjamin/Martha marriage.

It is also possible Martha's first marriage could have been in Derbyshire, Marple being quite close to the border.

Good luck

Hi Peter,

Does the Index you have ever show parents names of brides and/or grooms? I'm trying to trace the parents of Joseph Hankinson b. 1769/70 who married Martha Clark on 3.May 1792 at St Mary's, Bowdon, by license. If the record doesn't show the parents, would you mind having a look for any other Hankinson marriages before 1770 in that area, or Altrincham, as the couples children were christened at Hale and Shaws Lane Presbyterian?
Many thanks,
Pixie
