Peter,

thanks for your help. Arthur has been trouble since the start.  :)

I found a record that could be Elizabeth, on the 1881 census in Shropshire, but none of the Arthur Gibbon's make much sense.

It could be correct, the theory that Arthur's mother was unmarried, as there is some family folklore to this effect.

There is a Matthew Gibbon, unwed, aged 69 and from Macclesfield in in the 1881 census. It is quite intriguing, not to say tantalising to have him there.

Thanks again for all your help.

Regards

Andy

Hi Peter,

I wonder if you can help.

I am looking for a Maria Williams born approx 1842, Sutton Cheshire (according to 1881 census).

other information we have

Father - Robert Williams (from marriage certificate)
Sister - Harriet Williams born approx 1824 Parkgate Cheshire (from 1881 census)
I do not know of other siblings, however there may well be some as that is a big gap between Maria and Harriet

Hope you can help

Sue

Hi Sue
Not quite so easy, there are six Suttons in Cheshire.
Can you post the details of the 1881 census so that I can trace her back. I take it she was married on the 1881 as I can't find her has Maria Williams. If so where was she married.?

regards

Thanks Peter,

On the 1881 she is listed as Maria Mayson born c1843 in Luton Cheshire, a mariners wife living in Everton Liverpool.

However, as there is no place Luton in Cheshire, we ordered a paper copy of the census and the place can be read clearly as Sutton.

Maria's marriage certificate (3/10/1872 St Philip's Church Liverpool) lists her father as Robert Williams, Farmer, and her age as "full".  She married Richard Mayson, mariner (another brick wall, but that's another story).

Her sister Harriett Williams is listed on the 1881 as age 56 born parkgate cheshire, living with her neice Alice Mayson (maria's daughter) a Sarah Jub (relationship other) who is seen on a later census with Maria's daughter Alice Maud Mayson.

We have only found Maria on the 1881 census.

Hope that gives you a little more to work on.

Sue

Hi Nora
I have details of about 50 Furnival weddings in Cheshire but none involving a Timmis or a Walker can I suggest that as James and Catherine married in Stoke was it ? that you are more likely to find them in Staffs, sorry can't help with this one at the moment but will keep my eyes open.
