Hi Chris,

I wonder if you could possibly help me.  I am researching my Westgarth family and my gt.gt.grandfather states that he was born in Altrincham, Cheshire in 1821.  I have been unable to trace a birth for him and would like to find out who his parents were.  I have found a birth for a Mary Westgarth in 1819 in Cheshire and whose parents were Harriet (nee Rowbottom) and William Westgarth.  The marriage for William and Harriet took place on 22/12/1817 in Bowden, Cheshire.  How can I find out if William and Harriet are also the parents of James?  I would be most apreciative of any help you could offer.

         Sorry I dont have any birth records, marriages only.
I did look for other Westgarth marriages in Cheshire but only found one, Peter Westgarth of Bowden and Jane Burgess of Middlewich, the marriage being at Middlewich 16 Feb 1804.

Could not find a marriage for Wm Westgarth at Bowden, but there is one for a William Westhead and Harriet Rowbotham  22/Dec/1817. Is this mistranscribed ?

There are very few Cheshire records online so I would suggest you send an email request to Cheshire Records office and they will search Bowden registers for you, they normally look at two years either side of the date you give them and don't charge.

Many thanks for your prompt reply and for pointing me in the right direction Peter.  I will do that.  The name of William  'Westhead' is definitely a transcription error as I have it confirmed as William Westgarth and Harriet Rowbottom.  Just not sure if these two are my James parents.

I can't find the marriage of my Great X 3 Grandfather who may have married in Cheshire. If I've got it right his son was born c1807 in Handforth, Wilmslow but I can find no siblings. According to his Baptism at St Bartholomew's Wilmslow his parents were John Holt & Ann. John's son George I have followed right up to date but George Holt's parents are a very solid brickwall!
I know there are quite a lot of Holt's in Lancs...no matches so far.
