Hi

I wondered if you could help please.

I am trying to find the following marriage should be in the Congleton/Smallwood area.

George Foden c 1780 to Elizabeth ? c 1780 first child born 1816 in Astbury.

George  and Elizabeth are not on the 1841 census as they both must have passed away.

Any help woudl be appreciated.

Hi Cando

Confused !! me!! alway's !! To be honest I was born confused so anything you throw at me won't make the slightest bit of difference.  :)

There is a marriage of a William Peers cotton check maker of Levenshulme Manchester to a Sabra Heddington of the parish of Nantwich, marriage at Nantwich 12 June 1783.

Levenshulme being on the south side (Stockport side) of Manchester.

Still not sure where you get the name Ellen from ? are you saying the obituary could have said that Williams wife was Ellen or maybe Sabra ?

Like I said there are no William Peers marrying an Ellen in Stockport area.

hope this helps

Hi cando and Peter,

You can get the full transcript of the marriage here:
http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/ as the Nantwich PR's have been transcribed.  The entry says Levenholme Manchester P Lancs and the witnesses were Thos Eaton jnr and Thos Birchall.  Both bride and groom signed the register and the marriage was by licence.   The Thomas Birchall mentioned as witness is probably one of mine......

Hi cando,

The Birchall's were farmers in the Nantwich area - I haven't found any in the cotton industry - yet!
