Hi,
Just moved this from general board as Celia kindly pointed out I'd get a quicker response on the specialised board.
My ggg grandfather Thomas Edwards bap 1827 in Burwardsley St John (born Peckforton). Parents John and Mary Edwards. My problem is that marriage records for Burwardsley have not yet been deposited at the R.O. Could someone please check the marriage indexes for Cheshire to see if there is a marriage about this time and any details. Many thanks.

Fairlane
Edwards - Cheshire/Denbighshire
Dale, Lloyd, Potts, Vaughan - Cheshire
Humpherson - Shropshire
Ludlam - Yorkshire/Lancashire
Beasley - Buckinghamshire
Dick, Laird, Lambie, McInnes, McKechnie, Robertson, Semple - Lanark/Renfrew
Jordan - Drogheda
Maddison, Thirlwell, Nevin- Co. Durham/Northumberland
Walker - Yorkshire/Notts;
Jackson - Westmorland

Hi Fairline

Although Burwardsley St John was licenced for baptisms and burials it did not aquire a licence for marriages until 1841, being a chaplet of St Boniface at Bunbury all marriages within the parish would have been conducted there.

The index does not show up any likely marriages around the right timeframe, do you know John and Mary's ages, or where Mary was born, what did John do for a living ?

regards

Hi Peter
Thanks for your reply. I have no other info on John and Mary but as I have traced Thomas back on censuses as born /Peckforton Bunbury it was an inspired guess to try Burwardsley as I had already tried Bunbury, Marbury, Malpas, Tattenhall Parish registers to no avail. Therefore I feel sure this is our Thomas. Thomas was a labourer so I feel his father would have been of similar employment. I also found a brother John (bpt 1829 Burwardsley) who was was a M.S. in Peckforton in 1841 (age 12). Probable - mother Mary (b.c. 1801) as widow on poor relief in Peckforton on 1841 census HO107/96 Bunbury En.Dis.9 page 7 with daughters Mary and Elizabeth. One of the witnesses at Thomas's wedding was Mary Edwards but neither she nor Elizabeth were baptised at Burwardsley. I have checked Bunbury, Marbury and Tattenhall for marriage of John & Mary to no avail.
My next step is probably to widen the circle?

regards, Fairlane

Hi Fairline

Looking at the Cheshire indexes they show 10 John Edwards marrying between 1815 and 1829 most at one or other of the Chester City churches, but non to a Mary.

There was one to a Maria Tavo 23.11.1826 at Chester St John, Mary and Maria are sometimes used together. This J.E. was a cabinetmaker so maybe a little doubtful.

I would suggest you maybe have a look at Whitchurch Shropshire records, a lot of Cheshire folk married there ( just over the border )

sorry cannot give you anything more definite

Hi Peter

Your help is much appreciated as it saved me trawling through more hours of PR's for Cheshire. I'll take your advice and look over the border - with the name of Edwards just over the border into Wales may be another possibility.

I'm trying to find the marriage of John Roberts, occupation blacksmith. His wife's name was Margaret.  When their son Geoge was born n 1818 they were residing in the parish of Willaston near Neston.

Also, Samuel Williams to Martha. He was a farmer in Bromborough.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Pat

All the Wirral BMD are avalable to search online at http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/

Had a quick and nothing seems to jump out as being your wanted couples.
Would advise you to check the Liverpool churches as well, they were well used by Wirral folk.

Thanks for looking Peter. I tried to use the web site you mention yesterday but the database page just kept posting the message "error on the page" so I gave up.
I followed your advice you gave me before about Liverpool for the marriage of George and Martha and found them in 1840 so will try again for the others.
