Jean

Thanks again. It seems the marriage date is critical, mind you did they marry!

I'll get it sorted yet.

cheers

Hi,

I'd appreciate help in looking for a marriage between Thomas Hodkinson and Sarah (unknown), which according to the IGI took place in 1817 in Christleton, Cheshire. Christleton is near Chester, I think.

The Cheshire office has checked the Parish Registers for Christleton but not found anything ??? . Any help would be very welcome!

Thanks,
Hettie

Hi Hettie

There are entries for this marriage in any of the Cheshire indexes, looking at the IGI entry it looks very suspect to me, IE member submitted and no dates etc.

Do you have any more info on Thomas and Sarah, such as census and death records.

Hi Peter, thanks for your reply  :)

I agree with you about the IGI entries... it's very frustrating because this whole family is proving difficult!

I don't have census entries yet for Thomas and Sarah, but according to the IGI they were the parents of Richard Hodkinson who was christened 1823 in Christleton, and also Sarah Hodkinson who was christened 1818, also in Christleton. The Cheshire Records office have found a record for Sarah which is on order.

Richard Hodkinson is on the 1841 census with his other siblings (not with Sarah or parents unfortunately). They are in Hyde, Cheshire (HO107/111/9 f21 p36) and myself and my cousin have traced them as best we can through the censuses. In 1851, Richard is still in Hyde and married to Mary, and gives his birthplace as Christleton.

Thanks for reading, and for trying....

Hi Peter - You helped me out about a year ago, and I'm still plodding on, and you may see the posts on the general board.  We have a Peter Potts marrying Hannah ? probably around
1836, Sarah ? marrying ? Howard around 1790, and John Howard marrying Ann  ?  around 1825-30.

My Peter Potts family just doesn't seem to be there in 1841, but then my Harry Pownall born after the census of 1871 is in no census at all, might turn up in 1911.   Parents died when he was about 5, and he lived with his sister(s,) so I'm in the process of trying to find their marriages.  He joined the Indian Army using his real name age 21, so his marriage to Emily Howard from Macclesfield is not recorded, nor are they in the 1901 census, both were in India.  It will be a good story once I get there.   Thanks for anything you might find.  Cheers Fred

Hi Fred

I have the following marriage records

Peter Potts collier Hurdsfield / Hannah Lucas sp Hurdsfield 22-June 1836 St Peters Prestbury.

John Howard bricksetter / Ann Howard sp both of Macclesfield 17-August-1829

There is also this marriage record dated 1-April-1816 at St Peters Prestbury, John Howard bricksetter / Miriam Hordern sp both of Macclesfield, makes me think he may have been married twice.

Cannot seem to find a marriage for the Sarah Howard who was living with with John in 1841, it may be that she is a mother in law IE Ann's mother.

Hope this is some help

Hello from Canada.
Do you have a entry for the marriage of Thomas Fforster = Ellen Percivall in grappenhall 27/12/1752. It is not on the IGI so I cannot order an extraction from the LDS.
Thanks ahead. Jim

I'm trying to find a marriage for a Maria Clowes/Clewes.
Maria [nee Bedford] married Thomas Clowes at the Cathedral Manchester in 1811.
Thomas died 1816 in Stockport, Cheshire, he was 29 years of age.
Did Maria remarry? if she did I think it would have been in the Stockport area from 1817 onwards.
Thanks in advance,
Pat.
