Peter,

Oh, ack, sorry for my silly mistake!  The family was from Cheshire.  In my excitement, I forgot that Bury wasn't also in Cheshire!  ; )

Thanks anyway!

Hi Peter,
Whiston Family

Story of my life! Everyone lives in Cheshire but doesn't marry there.

Would be grateful if you could look for any of Robert and Ann Whiston's children marriages. particularly William Whiston who we think may have married twice. But at this point any Whiston marriages would be received with grateful thanks.

Sorry to put you to extra looking, by the amount of requests you've had I hope you aren't regretting your offer!!!!!

Hi Janice

Sorry but I only have the indexes, no parents are named so making a positive connection is not possible.

The only Whiston marriages I can find are for late 1700's and in the wrong area of Cheshire.

It may be easier to trace backwards to your Whistons rather than starting way back and trying to advance "blind" so as to speak.
What 19th century info do you have for descendants of your William born 1744 ? Do you know for definite he was born in Cheshire ?

regards

Hi Peter,
Thank you for your comments. William Whiston was born 1744 and died in 1819, aged 75 in Coventry.
He married a Henrietta Rew in 1780 in Coventry but was 19 years her senior. They had no living children. In her Will of 1841 Henrietta bequeaths a gold watch to her late husband's grandson William Whiston Batt which prompted the question of a first marriage and also silver to her niece Sarah Davies.
We have established that Sarah Davies is the daughter of Anderson Davies of Chester due to Sarah's late husband John Culcheth's Will of 1811 where he mentions the late Anderson Davies and his wife E. Davies, (who I was hoping was a sister and a Whiston)
Although I  never assume, I am trying to tie up the Davies family and the Whiston family but you have already told me that Anderson Davies didn't marry in the County, so I am well and truly stuck.
This is the background to the story and obviously the family dies out with the death of William Whiston, so I have no option but to go backwards from that point.
Thanks again Peter for your help.

Hi

Have you looked in the IGI online, there is a record of a John Hunt baptised at St Michaels Macclesfield 1811 father Joseph Mother Jane.

I have a record of a marriage dated 1/ Feb /1801 at St Peters Prestbury for a Joseph Hunt hatband maker of Sutton and Jane Shrigley of Macclesfield. This is the only marriage of a John H. and Jane so looks very likely "right" for the above baptism.

Hope this is what you are looking for.

Hello,Peter.I HAD looked at the IGI etc,I was hoping someone MIGHT be researching this family-and we could have helped each other by exchanging facts.I am sure I have the information you sent me -for which I thank you.On a late census-Jane gives"Norfolk"-John gives Macclesfield-that is all I have pre their East End time. Not a lot to go on.
Thanks again,jeano
