Hi

Sorry but cannot find a marriage for Anderson Davies in Cheshire. I wonder if his wife was born out of the county and the marriage ceremony was in her home parish.
Did Sarah have any sisters ? their names may give a clue as to  E's indentity.

good luck

Hi Chris,

Thank you for looking for Anderson Davies marriage. Sarah had one brother Robert Anderson Davies ch. 7.6.1778 also at St. Oswalds Church, but I cannot find any further record of him after his birth.
I have gleaned quite a lot of information from the Cheshire Wills site and managed to get Anderson Davies father (also Anderson Davies) Will. His father Thomas seems to have been an Alderman in Chester.

Yesterday I sent for a Will of Elizabeth Davies (not much E can stand for!) Widow in Chester, for 1803. I don't have a clue if it's her but is worth £3.50 to find out. Her daughter Sarah gave birth to a child John possibly that year, before she married the father John Culcheth a Solicitor in 1804 in Liverpool.

As you say, Anderson Davies marriage could have been out of the County in which case it's anyone's guess as to where that might be!

Thanks again for your time.

Hi again,

.....
The couple could have married Stockport but were living in Poynton about 1811, where their youngest son John was born.

The marriage could have been Poynton or Prestbury which was the parish church or alternatively in Stockport where Betty was born....

.
hi jean sandra,
Just to let you know - there were no marriages at Poynton Church (St Georges) between 1747 and 1858 as the chapelry lost the right to conduct the service.  Most marriages seems to have been at Prestbury, but several members of my family have the place of marriage shown as 'Manchester Cathedral' on the online databases.  Just to confuse matters I have (so far) requested 1 certificate and the marriage was actually at ?? Parish Church.  I really must try and post the image on here to see if anybody can read it, but whatever it says it wasn't the Cathedral!
Hope this helps

Hi Cara,

thank you for this I wasn't aware that Poynton church lost the right to conduct marriage services. I wonder why?

I have a feeling Robert and Betty may have married at St mary's Cheadle. Would that sound right for a couple living in Worth or Poynton, do you think?

Regards

Jean Sandra

Hi Chris,

I hope you can help me, I am a bit stuck on my Cheshire research  ::)

I am looking for the marriage of John Warburton (born Tattenhall) and Ann Fletcher (born Bunbury/Bunlery - sorry really hard to read on census returns) they were having children in Tarvin/Bebington starting in 1826 so I am hoping they married either in Tattenhall, Tarvin/Bebington or Bunbury/Bunlery areas!

Sorry I can't give you more information but I am not too familiar with the Cheshire countryside  ;)

Thanks so much

Jenny

Hi Jen

There is a marriage for them indexed at St Albans Tattenhall dated 26/2/1824, it states Ann is from Waverton (parish of Tattenhall)

You will have to apply to the Cheshire RO for a full transcript of the marriage, they do not usually charge if you give them all the above information. There is an email address in the link below.

regards

Hi Cara

The Cathedral in Manchester was dedicated to Saints Mary, Dennis and George and wasn't known as the Cathedral until 1847.

Hi Jeansandra

There is no mention of a Robert Eccles marrying a Betty or Elizabeth in Cheshire after 1615.

Hi

Sorry, seem to have drawn a blank with the Swindells, there is nothing for a James and Martha 1815 +. For John this may be a possible 20/9/1798 at St Mary Cheadle to a Ann Brown.
