Peter,
Could I be cheeky & ask for another check of your disc for the marriage of Richard Rosedale & Mary Flewitt in 1756?
Any other details would be appreciated.
Cheers
Lorrie

Hi
There are two versions of the same marriage in the index both dated 2/8/1756 at St Oswalds Shotwick the differance is in the spelling of Mary's name in one its Fluitt and the other say's Plewitt.

There is a note that say's Richard Junior

Thank you Peter.
I havent yet found baptism records for either of these. I have checked IGI, CPRdb any other suggestions?
Looks like I may have to plan a trip to the CRO.

Hi Lorrie

Sorry, there is no other way except the RO, it will be a few years before the CPRdb is complete.

Although the last marriage for Richard said junior I cannot find one for a Richard senior, so you may need to be looking in another county to get further back.

Thank you Peter,

I thought ihe Jackson/Cowsill marriage request was a long shot and it appears so.  I have checked out an earlier marriage of Ann Cowsill, but the facts didn't match Ann's details.
The suggestion that they were never legally married is looking to be the answer.

Thanks again.

Judy

Hi Peter,
I wonder would you mind confirming what happened to this family in 1861,1871 and 1891. I know Margaret died aged 7 and they have 2 more daughters and 2 sons and  move to the Black Horse pub in West Kirby before 1881. Eldest son Thomas takes over the farm (I found his and Hannah's grave in churchyard of the church were they were married, d.1895 and 1903 respectively) and William Snr dies in 1871 at the grand age of 98.  I'm trying to find out what happened to Hill View farm in those years. In 1881 nephew John is living next door in Victory Cottage but I can't find his marriage to Elizabeth and then they disappear. Thanks

Hi Sue

Non of the 1861 census indexes show William sen or junior as being in or around West Kirby/Grange area, my guess is that they have been missed by the enumerator/transcriber for some reason. I have my own copy of the Cheshire 1861 and have searched every page and not found them, I did notice that there was no "pub" shown in Grange so I checked the Whites 1860 directory and this shows William Powell as victular of the Chesnut Horse, so why he was missed I can't imagine.

From the 1860 directory
Grange is a small township in the Lower Division, of the Wirral Hundred, 8.5 miles N. from Great Neston, contains 850 acres of land, and in 1851 had 19 houses and 105 inhabitants, of whom 50 were males and 49 females. Rateable value £1,044 12s. The village of Grange is sometimes called Little Caldy. John Shaw Leigh, Esq., is the principal landowner and lord of the manor, The trustees of Bennett,'s charity own 242 acres in this township.
DIRECTORY.—William Peers, blacksmith; William Powell, victualler, Chesnut Horse;  Priscilla Boberts, shopkeeper; and Anthony Averill New House, Henry Brown, The HALL> George Mutch, William Rainford, and Leonard Ray, Farmers.

Hi Chris, I am trying to confirm the parentage of William Brockley who married Sarah Latham in Minshull on the 29th Dec 1836. He was born in Leighton nr Crewe, according to the Census stats 1813-1815 ,depending upon which year you use! However, there is some difficulty about this because his birth certificate details indicate that he was born in 1812.(He died in 1878 in Holywell, Flints aged 66 yrs) Consequently ,on searching  some of the parish registers for his likely parents, I'm having some problems in identifying likely parents. I have discovered, for example, that a William Brockley  married Elizabeth Barrow  in the parish of Nantwich on the 19th January 1814 and that a son William was born to William and Elizabeth Brockley in Leighton Green ,Coppenhall on the 21st March 1815,probably the same William and Elizabeth mentioned earlier. Clearly, my concerns arise from the earlier birthdate of 1812 suggested by the death certificate and I am wondering whether you would be able to identify from your information source other likely marriages in neighbouring parishes around the 1810-15 period which might help clarify the situation. It is also possible that William's grandparents were William Brockley and Mary Bebbington who married in Coppenhall Parish on 11th May 1771. I would be extremely grateful if you could help me in any way. Regards Ter
