Hi Peter,

Thanks for looking for me.
It is proving to be a bit of a mystery. It has been suggested that perhaps Joseph didn't know his father and put any name down (or a grandfather) on his marriage cert.

Very frustrating!
Thanks again

Hi,
Could you help me looking for a Ralph Neild born in Bowdon about 1833.
His wife was Mary Jane and they are in the1871 census, with 2 children born in the Bowdon area - John H,1864 and Harriet K,1865.
He was dead before the 1881 census but had a child who was 2 in 1881 so he must have died between 1878 and 1881.
There is a Ralph Drinkwater Neild in the IGI that fits the bill but I have no knowledge of that middle name.
Thanks, Dave Campbell

Thanks Peter, thats brilliant.
I have spent all day looking for Ralph Neild in the 1861 census on Ancestry without luck - he only shows up when I use the folio ref you gave me.
It looks like the Ancestry index is a bit flakey.
Cheers,
  Dave

Dear Peter,

:) Thanks for your quick reply. we would love to be able to give you more details about Thomas, but we are starting to wonder if whether our ancestor James actually had a father at all.

The only information we have is from James birth death and marriage certificates.

The birth certificate gives James' birth place as Bollington, regristration district Macclesfield in 1838.

His marriage to Rachel Valentine was in the registration district Ashton Under Lynne, St Paul's Church Stayley on May 19 1861

He immigrated to Australia circa 1864 and he died in Gympie, Queensland, Australia in 1911.

On each certificate his father is listed as Thomas Deane, labourer. His mother is listed as Mary

Thanks again
Rosndel :-*

Peter

We are wondering whether you have found anything more on our search for records for a Thomas Deane and his wife, Mary (Boothby) in Cheshire, and their son James, born in Bollington near Macclesfield on the 14 April 1838.
We noted a posting from Jean (registered name - Skylark) about Matthew Boothby born ca.1818 at Bollington and married in 1845 at Newcastle-on-Tyne.  We wondered whether he might be in the same family as Mary Boothby, being of the same family name in the same area.
Can you help us?

Hello

Sorry I've taken a while to get back to you.  My problem. - Matthew Boothby b. 1818 Bollington/Rainow father Joseph.

Matthew was in Newcastle upon Tyne Northumberland in Oct 1845, when he got married, and never returned to Cheshire, as far as I can tell.  I don't know whether he went to Northumberland with his parents or alone. or which year prior to 1845.

I don't know of any siblings or his mothers name.

My information comes from his marriage certificate and 1861/71/81 census.  I haven't been able to check any Cheshire records so far.

I am stumped, hope you can help me.

Jean

Hi
I have looked in both Bollington and Rainow and there is no sign of your Boothby family.
I did notice in one of your previous post that Matthew had a child in 1848 and by 1861 he was a widower? can I suggest you search for the death of his wife, it may be an idea to search the area she died.

sorry cannot help at the moment

When you have a moment, any information at all, on any "Hignett" male marriage, would be very much appreciated.

I don't think there will be all that many, but Thornton-le-Moors, Weaverham, Crowton, Onston would be the probable areas.

Thanking you, in anticipation,

Sandra Hignett
