I'm writing from Canada and was wondering if you could clearify something for me.

What would I find on an 1839 marriage cert.
Is St. Elphins a church or area in Warrington?

Thanks again!

Hi
St Elphins is the name of the parish (area ) and the church.
The marriage certificate would show
Date and place of marriage
Names of bride and groom
Age of bride and groom
Occupations
Residence at the time of marriage
Both fathers names and occupations

hope this helps

Hi,

would it be possible to look up the marriage of Joseph Thorneley in the Stockport / New Mills area between 1830 and 1851?

I don't know anything more than that except he was born in New Mills and moved to Stockport in the Heaton Norris area.

He described himself as a brickmaker's labourer in the 1851 census.

Many thanks

Jean Sandra

Hi Topmarx
Yes I remember you........ where did you find him eventually?
As for the parish records for Gt Budworth they are not online as yet. But have you searched the IGI there are plenty of George Harrisons and Mary Taylor's in Cheshire.

good luck

Sorry Peter, I don't know much about Joseph in 1841. i only know that by 1851 he lived with Eliza Boulton and continued to do so until after the 1881 census. In one census he was her lodger, in another she was his lodger, in 1881 they were supposed to be brother and sister.
I imagine that part of the problem was that he had been Joseph and Eliza had a number of children together and lived in Heaton Norris but as far as i know didn't marry.
In 1841 he was possibly in Heaton Norris where he later lived with Eliza but I don't know.
regards
Jean Sandra
