Hi Chris,

I can see you have been inundated and you're obviously a very generous person.  Please could you help me by looking for the following marriages?

- Thomas Webb to Catharine Ashley who had a child in 1840 in Allostock, Cheshire.  I have no other details.

- Sarah Webb to James Hayes.  Sarah had an illegitimate child in 1866 and this child named James as her father on her own marriage certificate.  It's a long shot but I can't find Sarah on any census records after 1866 and I haven't yet found a record of her death so I thought it wise to see if she and James ever married.

I would be very grateful for any help you can give me.  Likewise, I have a number of Cheshire census records I can offer help with if you need it.

Regards

Jeanette

Hi Jeanette
Welcome to rootschat, and thanks for the offer of help, please feel free to jump in anywhere you think you can help.
Its Peter actually, not Chris, I sort of took over the Cheshire board about a year ago, being disabled it kinda helps to keep the old brain cells ticking over, and the disability also means I have a lot of time, hence the reason for "hogging" the board.
Having said all that I cannot help you with your request, sorry, neither of the marriages appear on any indexes that I have, maybe be another couple of those live together and pretend we are married relationships of which there were plenty.
Once again thanks for the offer of help, it would be most welcome.

Hi peter,

last week I asked for information regarding the birth of the children of William Dawson from Leftwich.
You suggested I send for certificates of children under the mother's name Wilson.
BINGO!
Today I received the certificate for Elizabeth Wilson not Dawson born 27th October 1861. the mother was Alice Wilson and living at London Rd Leftwich. The same mother and address as I thought but not her so called husband's name of Dawson!
Many thanks for leading me along this route.
I have since found William in Hinckley Leicestershire in 1851 with another so called wife Susan and their family.

What happened to them I don't yet know.

I certainly had some controversial ancestors.
Thanks again Peter for all your help.

regards

Jean Sandra

Hi Chris - what a wonderful offer - here goes

Do you have the marriage of Hannah BUCKLEY & Joseph DAVENPORT both of Siddington, in Cheshire which would have taken place around 1837, also, any of their children, if it's not  too much trouble

As well as Siddington Church, they also used Gawsworth & Prestbury.

Thanks

Hi,

Can anybody help with any information about Ann Kinsey.  The 1841 census, taken in Liverpool when she is Ann Booth has her as being from Grappenhall and 25 years old, so I am estimating that she was born around 1816.

She married a Peter Booth, of Appleton.  Their first child appears to be Edwin Booth, born 1839, though in 1851 there is an Alfred W Booth present, who appears to be older.  I don't know if ithis is a child of theirs though.

Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi Cheshire Researchers

Today, I was given the following CD:

Cheshire Parish Records by S & N Genealogy Supplies

The CD allows you to browse, search and print Marriage Registers for all 5 volumes of W.P.W Phillimores Cheshire Parish Record Transcripts.

The dates covered are 17th and 18th Century

If you require me to look through these records for an ancestor of yours, please supply as much information as possible; and I will try to oblige

Chris in 1066Land

I am trying to find my great grandfather’s birth record which according to census information was around 1840 in Spital, Cheshire. However, despite searching the BMD sites (and visiting the FRO in London) there is no registration of his birth at that time (or any time around that date). My next search is to look in the Parish Records for that area. I have been to the SoG in London but they do not have the information I require – only indexes are available.

His name was Jonathan Edwards (father was Joseph according to his marriage certificate), mother unknown. 1871, 1881 show birth place as Spital/Spittle, Cheshire and 1891 Porton, Cheshire.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi
There are two Spital's and variations of the same in Cheshire, one is in Boughton Chester and the other is in the Wirral Poulton cum Spital, because of your referance to Porton 1891 census, I suspected a trancription error (porton/poulton )

There is a birth recorded in the Cheshire BMD for Johnathan 1840 Wirral http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/

The 1841 census shows

HO107-125-07-PAGE 19  Poulton cum Spittle Bebington Wirral

Joseph Edwards 35 farmer lab     born in county
Margaret   ~       35                          ~         ~
John                   15
Samuel               10
George                7
Charles               5
William                3
Johnathan           1

The Parish records http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/ show

DATED22/03/1840
FORENAME JONATHAN
SEX M
FATHER_FORENAME JOSEPH
MOTHER_FORENAME MARGT
SURNAME EDWARDS
OCCUPATION LABOURER

Hi Chris,

Would it be possible to look up a birth for Mary Cadman, she was born in Stockport, Cheshire around about 1831.  I am afraid I don't any more details than that.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi Kath
Sorry there are no birth records for Stockport at all on my discs.

Stockport Library may be able to help.
