Hello Chris.

I have a marriage certiciate for a James Massey to a Hannah Massey at Lymm PC in August 1852,
I believe the groom to be 40 years old and the bride 21.
Their fathers  are given as James- William Massey, Shoemaker, and Hannahs as Joseph Massey, Shoemaker.

I have found a couple of baptisims for James Masseys in the area in the same period 1800-1815, but they dont seem to be this man.

Can you check in the Knutsford area if there are any marriages for William Massey, and the Jospeh Massey. so I can look for baptisims in the right parish. I have been through the Rosthenre register, but the one I found there died as a small child.
A further James Massey who died in Knutsford 1890 was actually living and working in Timperley in the various census.
Thank you

I have posted this request somewhere else but cannot find it now!

Juno,

I have added some extra information and moved your posts to here:

Hi,

Would it be possible for you to check if you have a marriage for a Thomas Woolley and Elizabeth ? in Malpas, Cheshire about 1790, I would be grateful for any help.

Looks very interesting and the date would fit.... Elizabeth could have come from Bunbury.... looks like I need a trip to Chester.
Thanks for your help
Carol

Many thanks, Carol

I have just found another baptism that may be another of their children in 1779, could I ask if you could have another look say between 1777 and 1779 please.

Hi Carol,

What about this:

Thomas WOOLLEY m Elizabeth WRIGHT 14th July 1776 at Bunbury St Boniface

I can't remember whether I've asked you this before, as my husband's late brother had already researched the place and date of the marriage.  What I'd like to know is if any parents or witnesses are listed.

The marriage was between Richard Whittaker and Susannah Moss and took place on 28 June 1795 at Stockport Parish Church, Cheshire.

Many thanks
Lizzie

Hi Creamcake, I saw in your query that you had a Thomas Wooley in your tree, I have a Anne Wooley who married Edward Dutton and had my ggggrandmother Martha Dutton b 1808 at Bunbury s this any relation to your Thomas ? all my ancestors were baptised and married at Saint Boniface. Regards Chris.

Hi Lizzie,

The information I have is only from an index, but I have checked the marriage and it does say that Susannah was a spinster and Richard was a hatter.

As you have the exact date you might want to order a photocopy of the parish register entry from Cheshire Records Office:

Hi Jean

Many thanks for that.  Yes Richard was definitely a Hatter, as were his descendants until the late 1950s.  I'll order the parish register entry as you suggest.

Yes please, although I have just ordered a copy, only cost £1 plus 45p postage, so if it doesn't give any info, it hasn't broken the bank.

We would like to know if Richard's parents (or father at least) are mentioned and if it states where Susannah comes from (and maybe her father).  He died in 1836, so isn't on the 1841 census, but as far as we know he was born in Cheshire.  However, Susannah, who we think died in the mid 1840s is on the 1841 census and it shows she was not born in County.

Lizzie

ps. I wonder if there are any marriage bonds or similar available?

There never seems to be much more info on these earlier marriages other than witnesses but you could be lucky.
I don't know much about bonds, I'll ask at the library.
Be in touch later.

Pat.
