Hi Chris.  I am a new user of this forum so am not sure if you can help....

I wonder if you would be kind enough to check the records for a marriage in Stockport on May 20 1832 between Anthony Ollerenshaw and Ann Ogden.  Can you confirm where the marriage took place and whether there is any other information, e.g. parents' names?

Many thanks,
Susan
 :)

Thank you Jean.

There are a couple of possibles. I have looked through Rostherne, and  Knutsford, now Lymm,  but i suppose without the mothers name you can never be sure with such a common name.

Hi Susan and a warm welcome to the site.

Anthony OLERENSHAW of Hyde m Ann OGDEN of Wer. 20 May 1832 at Stockport by licence.

You may get more useful details (witnesses) if you apply to Cheshire records office for a copy of the marriage register entry (charges on the website)

http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/leisure_and_culture/record_office/online_shop.aspx

The marriage would have been at Stockport St Mary which was the parish church.  I'm not sure what the [Wer] would stand for on Ann's place of residence, possibly Werneth.

You may also be able to get information from the marriage licence, more information here:

Ah....... Yes there is a Joseph  son of Hamlet & Sara, born 1784, he died in Hulme and was a tailor there, some details on the registers for Christ Church Hulme. of his death and other childen.

Then there is a Joseph son of George &Suzannah Peak born 1767 -1832, not married on my list so no children  --but who knows? I am becoming quite bewildered by the comings and goings and the names---oh for a Clint & or Elvis.

everyone in this family must have a cousin and an aunt or uncle of the same name.

Obviously you know the family......
I go along the line of Esther, 1798 daughter of Hamnet and Mary.

Very interesting looking at the three generations of Massey - all similar names.   Even Esther's daughter is Esther!!!!

Hi ,

I dont think I have her listed. Is she the daughter of Hamlet & Mary peers/Parr?

I am going over  them all again becuse I attributed my line to Jospeh Massey of Hulme whose son James was born in 1811, I have only discovered after all these years --10-12, that that James died in hulme aged 6 years old, and was butied there.
Although they continued to have later children baptised at Rostherne.
I suppose the ones that died had to be buried quickly. Where as they could have a little trip back to Rosthenre for a baptismal party!.

So I am left looking for a James Massey born c 1812, born in the area, alive after the 1851 census, when he seems to have dissappeared. and of course I dont know who his father is. The marriage certificate dosnt show the fathers names.,

There are a few James Massey's born c1810, but its just making the connection---correctly this time.

Hi Chris -

I wonder if you might have a marriage record for a William Ellams (born c. 1768 died 1844) and Mary ? (born around 1785).  The marriage likely took place in Mary's birthplace of Alvanley, but may have been at Frodsham (they lived and raised their children in Helsby).  The marriage probably took place around 1807, but may have been a year or two earlier.  (Of course, they may not have married officially at all.)  William was a small farmer-agricultural labourer.

Thanks a lot!  Best regards, Anne. ;D
