Does it cover Ashton Under Lyne? If so, I've got a really high brick wall???

I have a Thomas Hague (1806 - 1884) from Hurst area of Ashton Under Lyne - he was baptised at St. Michaels.
He was married to an Ann?? (c.1806 - ?) from Ashton Under Lyne
As far as I can find, their first child was born in 1833...... so am looking for a marriage between 1825 - 1833??

Ann first appears in the 1851 census, so I suppose its also a possibility she could have been his second wife? So she could have married Thomas up to 1851?

Is there anything for Thomas around that time?

Hope that all makes sense???

Thanks in advance!

Tracy

Hi Mike,

You need a copy of the parish register entry.  I think that Manchester library have them, also Lancashire Records Office at Preston.  You could contact LRO: http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/education/record_office/ - they may have a facility for you to order a copy over the phone.

Hi Tracy,

Sorry it doesn't cover Ashton.  Did they have children after the start of civil registration in 1837?  If so, it would probably be worth getting the birth certificate of one of the younger children so that you know the mother's maiden name.

I wonder if you can find a marriage for an Elizabeth Hughes.  All I know so far is that she had an illegitimate daughter in 1752, so I guess anytime in the following 20 years might be her.  She lived in Frodsham, Cheshire.

I wonder if you can also find a marriage for a John Woodward.  I know he married a Mary Hughes in 1773, although he appears to have had a child with Mary in 1770 when he was already 36, but there are 5 children born to a John Woodward and an Elizabeth between 1761 and 1768.

Many thanks
Lizzie

ps.  I added the 2nd paragraph after I'd originally posted my request.

Could you check the entry for Rostherne Parish Church  26 Sept 1832 please?

James Massey  & Hannah Shallcross.

I am interested to see if it gives the parents and witnesess too, or any other information.

Thank you

Hi Juno,

The records I have access to are only indexes - as you have the exact date you can place an online order with Cheshire Records Office for a copy of the parish register entry for a small fee.  You should get the witnesses (although they may be parish officials) but you are unlikely to get the parents names unless they happen to be the witnesses.

Hope this helps,

Jean

Hi Lizzie,

I assume this is the baptism of the illegitimate child:

15th October 1752, Mary daughter of Elizabeth HUGHES of Overton, base begot.

I can't see anything in the general indexes, and for Frodsham the next marriage is this:

2nd April 1782 John LEWIS of St Oswalds, Chester m Elizabeth HUGHES by licence

This for John:

27th Feb 1759 John WOODWARD m Elizabeth PARSON by licence at Frodsham St Lawrence
