Jean - Presumably if I contact Cheshire CC Archives, they will be able to provide copies of any of the parish records you have quoted.

Thank you for the offer!  I'm hoping you can check for John Tynan who married Margaret Nelson in the late 1820s to early 1830s.  They lived in Hollingworth, Longdendale (1839 and 1841) and left England by 1842.

THANKS!
Cheryl  :)

Hi Lizzie,

I only have an index so it is just lucky if the witnesses are listed and there is nothing for the 1773 marriage but it is on the index as 7 Oct 1773 at Frodsham.

Cheshire Records Office will provide copies of the parish register and their charges are reasonable.  You can order online from their website.

You will probably find that the Woodwards are all connected somewhere so the will won't be a waste!  ;)

Hi Cheryl,

I'm sorry, but their are no TYNAN marriages listed on my index - they aren't complete though so it doesn't mean it didn't take place where you think - Mottram in Longdendale seems the most likely option.

Sorry I can't be more help,

Jean

Hi Jean

Thanks for all the info I have loads of Cheshire ancestors and you are right, I think the Woodwards are all intertwined, that's why it's difficult to sort them out.  Another Woodward ancestor told me that a George Woodward was Elizabeth Woodward's grandfather, but that now appears wrong, so I'll have to go all through the previous info I had.

Is the index that you have, Phillimore or Bertram Merrill?

On the 1841 census William TURNER, Whitesmith, born 1811, of Warrington says he was not born in the county.
On the same census William TURNER, Whitesmith, born 1781, of Warrington also says he was not born in the county.
By 1851 William TURNER, the younger of the two whitesmiths has died but the older one with the same daughter but a new wife, says he was born in Chester, Chester.
The son of the William who died early also became a whitesmith so it seems possible that the older man was father to the younger and took his grandson under his wing.
Checking the Cheshire Parish Record Project, I see that William Senior and two siblings appear to be the offspring of William TURNER and Sarah, born 1776, 1781 and 1783 and baptized Chester, St. Mary.
Do you have a marriage for William and Sarah 1775 ish and also William and Ann around 1806? I found his second marriage to Jane on Free BMD.

Thank you for taking time to read this.
Beth

Hello Beth,

I've had a good look round but can't see anything that fits.  There is a marriage of a William TURNER to Ann TAYLOR at Prestbury 16 Jun 1805 but he is described as a Cotton Spinner from Rainow.  I've also had a look at the Lancashire OPC site at the Warrington records but nothing there either, and no William TURNER wills for anyone with the occupation Whitesmith.

Sorry I can't be of more help,

Jean

Thank you Jean.

Re the TURNERS: Finding the Whitesmith occupation seemed like a gift. Sorry it didn't take me any further.
