Hi belinda,

This thread is for marriages pre 1837 as the others can often be found on the indexes:
Local Registrar index for Cheshire: www.cheshirebmd.org.uk
General index (UK wide) www.freebmd.org.uk

Neither are 100% complete, but they are pretty close.

Michael HORAN married Ann COLLINS 1866 Stockport Civil Marriage - from www.cheshirebmd.org.uk

However I can't see a marriage for your gt grandfather.  To get more information you would need to send for the certificate - you can use the form to apply by post on the local site or apply online using the information from www.freebmd.org.uk.

Hope this is of some help,

Jean

Hi,
I'm not sure if my couple got married in Cheshire but as Kate is from Frodsham it's worth a try please.
I'm afraid I don't know her surname
Kate  ??? born abt 1821 in Frodsham
married
John Hall 1813 - 1868, he was from Dewsbury
their eldest child was born in 1845 so I guess they would have married around 1844.
Any ideas gratefully received!!
Carol

Hi Carol,

As they married after Civil Registration you can have a look on www.cheshirebmd.org.uk (local index) or www.freebmd.org.uk (general index).  I can't see anything on Cheshire, but there are 18 marriages of a John HALL where there is also a Catherine on the same page.  I think your best course of action would be to send off for the birth certificate of one of the children so that you can be sure of Kate/Catherine's maiden name.

Hope this helps,

Jean

Hi Jean,

May I request one more look up please?

Catherine PRICE married James NEWTON on 31st December 1809 in the Parish of Wynbunbury, Cheshire.  I think Catherine's father was Richard PRICE.

Could you possibly check to see if there is any more information shown?

Thanking you in advance
Joan

Hi Joan,

A full transcription of the Wybunbury parish records is available here:
http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/

This will have everything that you can see on the original.

The groom was from Barthomley, both signed with an X, the marriage was by banns and cert (I don't know what the certificate would be needed for, it's probably worth a question on the Common Room board).  Witnesses were John Tomkinson and John Hayes.  If you do a couple of searches of common names and check the same period you will probably be able to work out if the witnesses were family or worked for the parish (parish clerk etc).

Hope this helps,

Jean
