Hi I am new to the Rootschat site, viewing it for the first time today.

I understand you may have access to some Cheshire parish marriage records.

Could you see if you can trace any of the following (likely in one of the following churches - Northwich Witton St Helen, Great Budworth or Weaverham).

1. Thomas Stanway to a Mary Dickens around 1830 - 1860.

2. Ralph Stanway (father of Thomas above) to a Catherine ? (Surname unknown at this time). Likely before 1837 - as not showing on Cheshire BMD records.

3  Thomas Stanway (father of Thomas above) marraige to an Anne Ryder. Date unknown but anticipated around 1780 - 1790.

4. Randle Stanway (father of Thomas above) to a Sarah ? (surname again not known at this time.

Any help you can give to guide me to the particular church and date woudl be very helpful.

Thanks

Bernard

Hi Bernard
                 Welcome to rootschat
The first one following was found in http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/

Thomas Stanway and Mary Dickens 1857 St Mary Gt Budworth no date
I could not find anything for Ralf and Catherine.
In the Bertram Merrill Cheshire parish marriages I found

Thomas and Ann Ryder 16/Feb/1792 St Mary Gt. Budworth
Randle and Sarah Read 2/Jan/1742/3 St Helens Witton
There are two entries for this marriage presumably because of a wrong transciption between church records and Bishops Transcripts

The records are I believe complete for Witton St Helens 1700-1837
~       ~           ~    ~             ~         ~  Gt. Budworth St Mary 1670-1837

regards

peterbennett

Hi Peter

Thanks very much for the information on the Stanway marriages in Gt Budworth & Witton Churches.  :)

This should enable me to go more directly to the marriaage records at the Chester RO - rather than trawl through a lot of micorfilms !

I am still confused over the missing record for Ralph & Catherine. I have no inclination that they were outside of the area at any time.

Ralph appears in 1841 & 1851 census in Castle Northwich along with wife Catherine in 1841 record (Kate in 1851 !) and son Thomas.  I have no knowledge yet of Catherine's maiden name.  Believed marriage was back beyond the 1837 start of BMD records.

Any other thoughts on other ways to follow this one up?

Thanka gains for the help so far

Bernard

Hi Bernard,
The I.G.I. has any entry for a Ralph Stanway marrying a Catherine Hind on 31 DEC 1831 at the Cathedral Church of Manchester. It was not unknown for couples from the Northwich area to choose to marry at Manchester Cathedral, especially if they wanted a "quiet" wedding. You should be able to request a copy of the entry from http://www.manchester.gov.uk/libraries/arls/copying.htm
if you think it's a possible match and worth further investigation. HIND(E) was a name local to Northwich at that time, I have one or two making an appearance in my own research, but sadly no Catherine.

Thanks very much. This looks a very positive lead.  :)
I do know Ralph & Catherine had a son Thomas born in 1835 or 1836 in Northwich, so fits in quite well.

I will follow up through the route you advise to check out if these are the correct pairing.

Thanks again for the help.

I find it very pleasing to see lots of people trying to help out with each others searches.
