Many thanks for that information - it has to be the right one as on all his children's birth records he is described as a shoemaker! Bingo! Been searching for that one for ages - really appreciate the help.

Wonder why they went to Liverpool - I'll have to find the old thread where it discussed people going to Liverpool to get married.

PS Just checked the birth records for the children and their first child was born on the 26th November - so that's probably my answer!

HANNAH SNELSON   was born 1796 in Cheshire, England, and died 1857 in Moundsville, WI USA.      She married JOHN POWELL 16 Jun 1823 in Tarvin, Duddon, Cheshire. 

Children of HANNAH SNELSON and JOHN POWELL are:
   ii.   HANNAH3 POWELL, b. 1828, Liverpool England; d. Dec 1902, USA.
   iii.   JOHN POWELL, b. 1826, Lancashire, England; d. Wisconsin, USA.
   iv.   SUSANNA POWELL, b. 1831, Lancashire, England; d. USA.
   v.   SAMUEL POWELL, b. 1827, Chester, Cheshire England.
   vi.   JAMES POWELL, b. 1826, Cheshire.
   vii.   WILLIAM POWELL.
   viii.   THOMAS POWELL, b. 13 Jan 1837, Duddon, Tarvin, Cheshire, England.
   ix.   MARY ELIZABETH POWELL, b. 1824, Chester, Cheshire England; d. Missouri.

Hannah's parents were:
.  SAMUEL1 SNELSON1 was born 1769 in Tarvin, Duddon, Cheshire, and died 25 Jul 1835 in Duddon, Tarvin, Cheshire, England.  He married MARY ANDERTON 13 Dec 1793 in Bunbury, Tarporley, Cheshire, England.  She was born 1770 in Bunbury, Tarporley, Cheshire, England.
   
Children of SAMUEL SNELSON and MARY ANDERTON are:
   i.   HANNAH2 SNELSON, b. 1796, Cheshire, England; d. 1857, Moundsville, WI USA.
   ii.   MARY SNELSON, b. 1795, Tarvin, Cheshire, England; d. 23 Jan 1865, Tarvin, Duddon, Chester.
   iii.   JOHN SNELSON, b. Abt. 1806, Tarvin, Duddon, Cheshire.
   iv.   SAMUEL SNELSON, b. 1802, Tarvin, Duddon, Cheshire.

Hannah also had a illegitmate child Thomas b1813, I have the parish record of his christening.

i would be grateful for help as I have hit a brick wall with this family.

Well, you seem to have done very well with the family so far!  What information is it you are looking for?  This thread is for lookups for marriages before 1837, but you seem to have all the information for the marriages.....please let us know what information you need to help you and we will do our best!
