Marriage lookup please - Richardson-Cottrell

I have been trying to find the marriage record of James Richardson to Elizabeth Cottrell circa 1900 without any luck.

If anyone could help would be very grateful.

All I know is they had a son born in Macclesfield on 29th December 1905 called Stanley.  I got the parent details from his birth certificate but can't find the marriage record which I hoped would help me get the birth records of James and Elizabeth.

I'd start by looking at the 1901 census for a James Richardson occupation: ?. That may indicate where in the list of kids Stanley appears, (and therefore when/where a marriage moke likely took place)

You could also search on the 1905 address at the GR 1901 site.

Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you, I came down with the dreaded flu type bug that is doing the rounds


Stanley Richardson was born on 29th December 1904, the address given on birth certificate is 37 Lunt Hill Macclesfield.  His parents are given as James  and Elizabeth Richardson (nee Cottrell).

As I said, I can't find his parents anywhere, there is a James Richardson born London on the 1901 census and for a while I thought that must be the one by default but the information does not fit what I have been told about the rest of the family.

That Lunt Hill address appears to be occupied (according to the 1901 site).
Did you find out who was there? (Ancestry has no Search by address, use 1901 site)

If you have searched for the father James by occupation and he stil doesn't appear, then maybe he was at war? In that case maybe you should try absent votor lists/ electoral rolls. These are usually held at the local (Macclesfield) libraries.

I'm not a member of Ancestry anymore, the ones I'm stuck on it was no help for.

James's occupation was given as general labourer i've just had another go on fbmd but no luck so think will have to wait until 1910 census comes out for more info.

Was Stanley their first born?  If not, you may have to go back further than 1900 if they had older children.  Also - although they had Stanley in Macclesfield, they may have married in another area

Had a quick look on the 1891 for Elizabeth Cottrell in the macclesfield area.  There were'nt any but the nearest was this one in Dukinfield so I tracked her back to 1881 as her father had died by 1891

Thanks for this, I will definitely explore this one a bit more because on family search I found a James Richardson in Dukinfield so this could be where they met if they both grew up there.
