Poor house/hospital
« on: Tuesday 07 March 06 11:19 GMT (UK) »
I have come across an ancestor who died 10 days after childbirth in Venturevair Houses in Dunfermline in 1879. A friend from Dunfermline tells me that there is a street called Venturevair Gardens in Dunfermline.

This got me thinking that there may have been a poorhouse or hospital in this area.

Can anyone help me out here.

Hya Linda, take a look at this web site with digital images of Dunfermline. You might find what you're looking for on it. I know there is a Venturafair Avenue in Dunfermline.

Hi Linda,

As far as I know the Venturafair Houses were cottages for colliery workers and this was definitely the case at the time of  the 1881 census. I could see if your relatives were living there in 1881 if you haven't already got this info.
