I've had a look but can't see any letters on the page that look at all like the first two :(
All the other Ss are above the line. Have downloaded and will have a more detailed look once I've converted it to readable format.

It would be good to be able to look at other entries on different pages by this enumerator.

Nevertheless, despite the different 'S', I'd go with Casalguidi and plump for 'Twine Spinner'.  It would be good to be able to see whether the same occupation appears on other pages ...

I've had a good look and even searched through old occupations - I'll see if I can find some other pages.

Morice Town* was/is very close to Devonport dockyard, so it might well be asn occupation that is related.

I've looked through about 15 pages and can't find any one else with that occupation - or even letters that look remotely like the first one :(

Interestingly, all the Ss - e.g. Sail, Sarah, Ship, Shoe are above the line. Though I must say the second letter does look like a p.

For what it's worth, I've just googled 'Twine Spinner' and it definitely was an occupation, with mentions in different census among other places.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all your hard work, especially Gadget, I have tried to figure this one out for a while and didn't even come up with Twine!!, shows how important 'fresh eyes' are.
Thanks again

I agree with Casalguidi  :D
Twine Spinner

Casalguidi, it looks like Twine Spinner is the most likely one, I have just checked some  baptism records for children of  a possible relation for Eleanor,(nee Dorward) and the father's ( David Dorward) occupation is Flax Dresser.  It seems that Twine spinning and Flax dressing are related occupations.  Thanks to all for your help.
Patricia, thanks for the links, lots of information there.
Not only have I found the most likely occupation here (on rootschat), but it looks like I have some more evidence of a connection between these two families.
Thanks again Rootschatters,
Michelle
