Rab, I was trying to find the Donaghadee gravestones on the Ulster Ancestry site - couldn't find a link... or is it members only?

I can't find the family of William Blain and Mary Maxwell in the 1851 Scottish census, and wonder if they were in Ireland then? If so - there may be traces. Both parents were dead by 1860, but where is not known...

(Almost my whole family is like this. They live on borders, they cross and recross borders, either county or country... Even the ones who seem fairly sedentary - the McCullochs and Fishers and Whytes of Linlithgow area in Scotland in the 18th to mid-19th centuries, are constantly crossing the Avon which separates two counties ;D )

Hi Jenny....

Was wondering if during your research you have run across a   William Maxwell son of George Maxwell....would be later in the 1800's.  From the information I have believe he would have been born around 1894?....He married an Annie Close 15 Jan 1926.  Thot I would ask, as I have been told there were "Close" rellies in Donaghadee at some point....Any insight you might have would be appreciated....

Mary Maxwell and William Blain married 19 Feb 1812 Donaghadee. The minister was Alexander Goudy.  Does anybody have info on him or on them?

The above link to the section on Rev. Goudy only works if you've a subscription to Ancestry.

Did Rev Alexander Goudy emigrate ???

He must have returned to marry people in Donaghadee.

Thanks all. I don't use Ancestry so can't access the page on Goudy. However it seems very unlikely that he could have emigrated, unless he returned rather speedily!  There are marriages performed by him listed in the various Wigtownshire records through the 1790s and 1800s - the Blain/Maxwell one being 1812.

Does the ancestry page give any more details, or list the source of the information?

Hi all,
I'm not sure who Primrose Maxwell is - she may be later than mine. But I think my Mary Maxwell was probably from Wigtownshire - it's just that they ran away to Donaghadee to marry, or something like that!  I'm sure there is a story there but don't know what it was. But there were people going backwards and forwards over the Sheuch all the time, I think, so any details of Maxwell families from the time of the late 18th century or very early 19th may be useful.

Alexander Goudy seems to have done a real trade in marriages!

I was trying again to get on the Ancestry page about him, but though I have an ancestry.co.uk subscription now, I can't access it as it needs a US subscription. Is there any chance somebody might send me the text of the page?

Jenny
