« on: Sunday 05 March 06 20:32 GMT (UK) »
Where can I find the records for St Luke's Old street Finsbury for births and christenings 1827 - 1840.

Looking for Edward Mellish 16 Dec 1834 Parents John & Elizabeth Mellish, also Thomas Mellish christened 1840 and Eliza Mellish Christened 1840 with same parent names of John & Elizabeth Mellish.

Looking to find original/copies of these entries to see if any more information given about John Mellish.

There was a Thomas Mellish registered at St. George Hanover Square, Qtr. Dec 1838, Vol 1, page 5.
The name Mellish was not common, especially in London where the spelling Melhuish appears to have been more common at that time.
You could apply for a copy of this birth certificate and risk £7 with the GRO. If you want to pay £11 you can specify that you want it only if the parents are John & Elizabeth. If they are not it will cost you £4, I think. They refund the balance.
If it is the right one it will give you the occupation and address of John and the maiden name of Elizabeth, not much else really.  But £4 or £7 is cheaper than travelling around.8)
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

Any idea where I can get the birth certificates for Edward born 1835,  I found his details on the IGS (familysearch.og), but don't know where Ican get a copy of the baptisim or birth certs.  Am I right in thinking the GRO only has records from 1837 onwards?

Birth certificates weren't issued before civil registration began in 1837.  The record that you have seen on the IGI was taken from the church baptism record.  The only thing you will find is tha original record in the appropriate record office or a transcription of that record.

Hi  :)
The parish registers for Saint Lukes Old Street Finsbury are held at the London Metropolitan Archives ( LMA )

http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation/leisure_heritage/libraries_archives_museums_galleries/JAS/lma/lma.htm
On the first page click on Explore Family History. On the next page click on London Generations.
Just type,                     Saint Luke Old Street Parish              ( No Apostrophe )
You will get a list of 26 pages to trawl through but the year you want will be there.
You can get copies from the site . You will need to know the Micro Fiche reference number.
