The peeps on the GWF are great, they mostly all say that he was a Cameron Highlander, though Gordons and Cameronians keep being suggested too. Well at least I now know it is one of the three!  ;D I think I'll stick with the majority verdict for the time being though.  ;) ;D Thanks for all the suggestions.
