Michael Gleeson
« on: Saturday 04 March 06 10:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I'm seeking information on my great-great grandfather Michael Gleeson.

He was born c1850 (poss 1853) in Tipperary, Ireland, son of Cornelius Gleeson, farmer and Johanna Foley. He emigrated to New South Wales c1870 but I have not (yet!) found a record of this.

Married Bridget Ryan 28 November,1883, St Mary's Roman Catholic Cathedral, Sydney. Son, Cornelius b 1884, d 1885. Bridget died 1884.

Married Margaret Wall 7 Jan 1888, St Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, Sydney. Children Johanna b 28 December 1888 (my great-grandmother); Patrick Frances b 2 May 1890, Michael b1891, Mary b 1895.

Michael died of pneumonia at home (338 Wattle St, Ultimo, NSW) 27 July 1906.

Information re Michael's parent's, siblings, children and place of origin in Tipperary appreciated.

Thank you.

Sharon

Hi Sharon don't know if there is any connection but I a researching the Harrington family of Tipperary. I have my great great grandfather Edmond Harrington married Mary Gleeson on 22nd November 1843 at Silvermines RC church. The son of Edmond and Mary married a Bridget Kennedy in Templederry RC in 1874. the priest who married them was a father Gleeson. Don't know if he was a relative of Michael's mother Mary.

Hello
To the best of my knowledge that Fr Gleeson was not a native of Silvermines.

Oh thanks for that info. Is there any way I might find out where he was from?

I have info on an M. Gleeson being a tenant on a land in Tipperary. I have some family documents that show some connection to a landlord of the 'Newenham' family. I'll have to find the doc.
