Kings Somborne Parish lookup - Lawrence
« on: Friday 03 March 06 00:51 GMT (UK) »
The LDS libraries do not have any microfilms of Kingsomborne parish records.  I am at a deadend and need some help please.  I need baptism or birth dates for:
James Lawrence b. 1804 Kingsomborne, Hants m. Ann Harrison of Lockerley
dtr. Ann Lawrence b. 1825  "
Son Thomas Lawrence  b. 1826    "
son James Lawrence b. 1828        "
(There are other children, but they were born in Ashley and I have those records).

I think, but have not confirmed, that James Sr. is the son of James b. 21 Nov 1779, son of William & Sarah Laurence of Lockerley.

Hi lbj,

Only James and Thomas appear to have been baptised in Kings Somborne:

James 4 May 1828
Thomas 4 Feb 1827

Ann Lawrence baptised in Michelmersh 12 Apr 1829 with parents James and Ann

Ann Lawrence baptised 23 Apr 1825 in Andover parents James and Mary Ann Lawrence.

Can't help with James senior at the moment.

Nell

Hi Nell.  Thank you for looking into this family for me.  I think the James and Thomas are what I was looking for.  Ann confuses me.  She shows up in the 1841 Census as being born 1825.  I don't understand why they waited until 1829 (in Michelmersh) to baptise her if they previously went to church in 1827 and 1828 to baptise her younger brothers.

Just an aside, Thomas' dtr. Elizabeth shows up in 1881 in Michelmersh as the  14 yr. old niece of a William and Elizabeth Palmer.  I wonder if Elizabeth is Thomas' sister bapt. 1845?  I'll have to check that out in the Ashley parish records.

I found a James Lawrence (wife Sarah) in Houghton in 1871 who stated he was born in Kingsomborne, age 48.  I wondered if he could be another child of James and Mary Ann Lawrence who would have been born ~1823.

That leads me to the question of how are James (husband of Mary Ann) and James (husband of Ann Harrison), both from Kingsomborne, related?  They appear to be very close in age as do their respective children.  Cousins?

Sorry for the rambling.  I feel like Kingsomborne has many of these connections for me and wish I could get a look at the parish records.  Where have you found this information?

Hi

Not sure if it is of any use to you, but The Somborne Society in Kings Somborne are able to sell copies of a CD that have the Parish Marriange, Christenings and Deaths.

I am a decendant of a Miriam lawrence who married a Geary in KS.

Thanks for contacting me.  I haven't been on the board for a long time.  I do have the cds you mentioned.  They are a treasure.  You and I have a common ancestor in Charles Lawrence and Amelia (Millie) Guyat.  I am related to James Lawrence, their first child.  You apparently come through William (the 2nd Wm.)

Did Miriam end up in Dickinson County (or Geary County) during the homestead era in Kansas?  I visited there in July 2008 and had a wonderful time riding around the back roads with another "cousin" who grew up in the area.  We visited cemeteries and saw the old homesteads.  Thomas, James' son ended up there, as well as several relatives from Alderbury, Wiltshire, England related to his wife Eliza Haines.  Thomas' son John Lawrence came to Los Angeles after 1910.  As far as I know we all stayed out in So. California somewhere.

I am not sure if we have "met". I too am descended from Charles and Amelia Lawrence. Have you sorted out the convoluted relationships here? My email is oromai at xtra dot co dot nz ....
