They all resided in Northumberland. I see Alnwick District often, as well as Felton, Gateshead, Morpeth and not sure what else.

You'd think we'd find something about them as the name isn't that common is it? lol

I have a few pages of Bowey's from other Bowey Family trees so I do think it is much more common than we think

I am also researching  this elusive and dispersed BOWEY/BOWIE family.  I think I may have pieced mine together.  It has yet to be proven conclusively, but it looks good.

- Hugh BOWEY (s/o Hugh 1756 Alnwick?) married Thomasson MAXFIELD 1779 Stannington
  - Robert BOWEY 1779 Stannington - 1816 Whittingham married Jane TRUMMEL/TURNBULL  (d.o.m.?)
-Ann BOWEY 1814 ca.married 1827 Whittingham to Thomas SCOTT

Perhaps some of us will link?

I have checked through all the lists for Bowey's that I have. Unfortunately none of them show up on any of them.

Keep trying I am sure somehow one of us will connect or hit it lucky.

Hello Wendy,

My family had also been especially difficult to bring together.  The children of Robert BOWEY and Jane TRUMMEL/TURNBULL had shown Robert's birth place as Branton 1802, Little Houghton and Ponteland.  Marriage still to be located. He died aged 42 in 1816 Whittingham - born 1774, but Hugh BOWEY and Thomasson MAXFIELD produced a Robert in 1779 in Stannington, which I now consider likely, as follows:

I considered if James BOWEY s/o Hugh and Thomasson was born in Branton (a Family Search detail I think) in 1800, that put both Hugh and Thomasson, the believed parents, and Robert - their son -and his wife Jane in Branton 1800-02.  That strongly suggests a kinship link to me.  Additionally, Robert and Jane produced a Thomason.

I consider this construction very reasonable and I doubt that it will be disproven.  I am detailing it in a following post.

Wendy, after typing out the following, I previewed it, then lost it!

At his children's christenings, my Robert shows his place of birth as Branton* (1802), Little Houghton and Ponteland.  I have not found his christening, but I found that Hugh and Thomasson** BOWEY had produced Robert in 1779 Stannington.  They also produced James (1800)  in Branton*.  As James s/o Hugh was born in Branton in 1800, and Robert gave his birth place as Branton at his daughter's christening in 1802, they both show a Branton link 1800 -1802, and therefore, I concluded a strong possibility that they may be of the same family. That and the fact that Robert BOWEY and Jane TRUMMEL also produced a Thomason**.

Hugh BOWEY (ch.9 Jul 1756 Alnwick s/o Hugh) m. 7 Feb 1779 Stannington Thomasson MAXFIELD

- Robert ch. 18 Jul 1779 Stannington
- Elizabeth ch. 25 Mar 1781 Stannington
- William ch. 17 Jun 1787 Ponteland
- John ch. 15 Jul 1792 Edlingham
- James 15 Mar 1795 Alnwick (s/o Rbt./Jean)
- Francis ch. 1 Jul 1798 Edlingham
- Thomas ch. 1 Nov 1800 Branton

Jumping screen.  More to follow.

Robert BOWEY buried 2 Mar 1816 Whittingham 42 years - b. 1774

Robert BOWEY m. Jane TRUMMEL/TURNBULL

- Nancy ch. 12 Sep 1802 Kirknewton
- Jane ch. 7 Dec 1806 Embleton
- Thomason ch. 2 Oct 1808 Embleton
- James ch. 2 Apr 1811 Whittingham
- Elizabeth ch. 2 Apr 1814 Glanton
- Ann b.? m. 12 May 1827 Whittingham to Thomas SCOTT

Jane (TRUMMEL/TURNBULL) BOWEY died 13 Feb 1854 Lorbottle, 76 years, widow of Robert.  In 1841, 51 she was living with daughter Elizabeth.  Elizabeth was living with her niece Mary Bowey (SCOTT) and her husband John DICKINSON in 1861.

I have spent a great deal of time piecing this family together.  I believe this construction - to be further proven - is correct.  If anyone can prove otherwise, I would be pleased to learn how.  Anyone who believes this is their family should confirm all details for themselves.  I noted you and others had been trying to gather the families of Northumberland so I thought I'd just add mine to the mix.  They may open up a new field for someone.

Exactly right but you would surely think a connection would show up somewhere.

Still searching and working on other links to my Tree. Hard to find all the time required to dig deeper.LOL

Now I need to reorganize by binder as I received an indenture and other papers from my sister when I was home. My office is a disaster. hahaha

All of these BOWEY lines seems to have moved about considerably.  That is why I had so much difficulty trying to piece mine together.  That, and the advice that TURNBULL and TRUMMEL are interchangeable.  (So TRUMMEL will be even more difficult?)

I hope we are able to start putting some more of these families together soon.

As regards your messy office: but it is a thrilling disaster right?  The kind we all dreamt of having when we first started?  Up to our ears in genealogy!

Hello all, just a tidbit to add to the mix....I happen to have the appropriate dates for the Ponteland parish register for the baptism of William Bowey chr 17 June 1787 and it does, indeed, show that he is the son of Hugh and Thomason (sp)....AND it also indicated that the family was living in Ogle at that time......sorry to say, I do not have any of the other parish registers in question but perhaps this will help someone.... ;D Pat
