Help With Newbold Burial Information
« on: Tuesday 28 February 06 15:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi - I wonder if anybody might be able to help!?

The Newbold side of my family were essentially farm labourers from Rutland, and those I am closest to were from Syston and Queniborough. I am trying to find out how I might establish where they might have been buried. I went to Syston Cemetery yesterday and a gentleman looked through the plot registers for the early 1920s and we couldn't find any Newbolds there, but I now understand that my Great Grandparents Tom and Daisy (Florence Elizabeth Daisy) Newbold were most likely buried at Queniborough.

As I live on the south coast I am not able to get to Leicester as much as I would like (yesterday was the first time in almost 15 years!) so I am hoping for a way to find burial records remotely - am I likely to be successful?

Thanks!

Hi,

Welcome to Rootschat.

Looking for burials in the 1900's can sometimes be more difficult than in the earlier years. The National Burial Index is far from complete and  does not yet have many entries after 1900, I have looked for you without any luck, sorry.

You could type in Leicestershire Burials on Google, it does bring up quite a few pages you may like to browse through.

The Leicestershire FHS may also be able to advise you. Many of their transcriptions are on Family History Online but it does not appear to have   the dates you need yet. Searching is free, there is a small fee for viewing the pages.

Happy Hunting,

Kind Regards,

Frances :)

Thanks Mike - I can see that I will have to try and find another opportunity to make the trek to Leicester - hopefully it won't take another 10 years or so to get back as it did this time around!

My parents seem to think that they found the gravestone of my Great Grandmother propped against a wall several years ago. I was hoping to be able to see if there were others but went to Syston cemetery instead of Queniborough then ran out of time!

I will have to see if I can find some burial records on a CD from LFHS or somewhere, although without a clear idea of dates this could be a bit hit and miss.  I will certainly contact the Record Office to see what information they might have available.

Hi Ann (emislu),
I am Phil's sister so can probably answer for him. If you are able to get to Queniborough churchyard at all it would be great if you could find anything on the Newbolds. I visited in 2008 and only found a Geo Newbold memorial and no sign of Daisy Newbold who died in 1922. Tom's second wife Annie would also be buried there I guess as is Tom.
They lived in Main Street, Queniborough for all of Tom's married life, Annie died around 1970 possibly.

Thank you

Alison
