Daniels/Danniel/ODaniel/Whalen
« on: Monday 27 February 06 19:47 GMT (UK) »
Looking for information on a William Christopher Daniels, upon entry to the US there was a mix up in his name and they called him Daniels.  He came to the US in 1902, was born in 1881 in Free Irish State (stated in the 1910 Massachusetts Census).  I have not been able to find where in Ireland he lived, parents name, or anything about him in Ireland.  He married a Margaret Anne Whalen also from Free Irish State (stated in their first American Census in Massachusetts, it states that she came to the US in 1903 but I have not been able to find any ship list with either name on it Can anyone check the shipping lists for Ireland in 1902 and 1903 for William C Daniels and Margaret Anne Whalen respectively.  Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you Gail

Do you know if the 1910 and following censuses listed if he was naturalized or not? Records after I think about 1906 would list what ship/port he came through.  A big help since the exact spelling of his name on immigration is uncertain.  Also remember he might have come via Canada.

The census states that he came to the US in 1902.  His birthdate is either 1880-1881.   And I believe that he arrived in Boston.  Beside his entry it states AL, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS

Is this the 1910 census? AL means 'alien', so he hadn't applied to become a citizen at that point.  PA means first papers have been put in, not fully naturalized, and NA means naturalized.

Someone might be able to get the full info from the 1920 census for you, it looks to me (from the index) like they're in Livingston County, NY:

William C. Daniels, 1881 Ireland
Margaret, 1880 Ireland
William E(?), 1909, MA
Mary, 1910, MA
Nora, 1913, MA
John F, 1916, NY

Hi
The 1920 census does not give his year of immigration....it is marked as UnK.
Occupation: Horse Trainer, born Ireland, both parents born Ireland.   Unfortunately, it does not say which area.

To Ohio Susan, JoRose and Valerie:
Thank you for all your help.  Because of the information I have been able to find  William C. Daniels in Genesseo NY in the 1920 census.  and because of Ohio Susan's info I am tracing Mary Wheland's arrival and where she lived prior to her marriage to William in Boston.  I have been able to glean the year they were married in Boston and plan to get their wedding certificate.  I have also posted to the meath, Michelstown site in hopes of hearing about her family there.  So many thanks

But I still need the information of William in Ireland in anyone can give any help, hints or information as to where to look I would appreciate.Thank you all for all of your help it is much appreciated.
