Thanks Annie - I have been back and I still say it isn't all staining there is some pattern there - but you know some people - never satisfied - expect they want them white next!!

I know there seems 2 distinct branches of Batemans - hoping someday for a connection - I have only one person who married someone from Bristol - as the only link - but you never say never 

I think we all start off this family history lark with some idea of what we are going to find - and I don't think it ever works that way.
