William Renton who died in 1812 may have been a brother to my John Renton.
Thank you Janis

I have links also

David Kirkup - Lintz Hall Farm - moved there about 1860s, via Gateshead and originating in Brough Cumberland.

Offspring married into the Hindhaughs and their offspring into the Armstrong x 2, Heron and a couple of others who looked as though they wandered in from Mackem Country.

Hi John W H ......I have Armstrongs from Tanfield in my tree....Herons on my father in laws side,Wilkinsons in Gateshead thatgo back to Brough,Appleby area so maybe a few overlaps there :-\

Thank you for your reply and kind offer.  I don't know if it helps but the records I have seen at LDS say 'Fryerside, Tanfield'.

My mother was born in Friarside (as she knew it spelt)  - from what I know, it was a pit village which is now long gone.  She grew up there as her father worked as an electricioan in the pits.  My grandmother lived her last years in Tanfield Lea

Hi, I live in Burnopfield and it is very close to Tanfield. I notice that you have mentioned FRIARSIDE. There is a Friarside and High Friarside on the outskirts of Burnopfield. This  info may be of use to you.

I have Wilsons born in Tanfield - Jane Elizabeth, Anne Maria, Robert, Mary Dora, George Thomas and Sarah Maude all born between approx 1858 and 1871. I am specially looking for a birth record for Jane Elizabeth (my great grandmother). I got the details for her date of birth from IGI, but I can't confirm it on FDM...
Has anyone come across them in their research?

There was a Jane Elizabeth WILSON born at Sheep Hill on 27-Jun-1858 and baptised at Tanfield Parish Church on 25-Jul-1858. She was the daughter of George William, an Excise Officer, and Mary WILSON.

A further child of the same parents, Anna Marie WILSON, was born at Sheep Hill on 23-Dec-1859 and baptised at Tanfield Parish Church on 26-Feb-1860.

That sounds like my Jane! Sheep Hill? I've never heard of it! According to FreeBMD, there were 3 Jane Wilsons that might be correct. But because according to one if not more of the census she was born in Tanfield I ruled out South Shields and Auckland because Tanfield wasn't in those Districts ( and the 3rd Jane had a middle name of Ann). I therefore assumed she was born in Sept because there are 2 entries for Durham and that includes Tanfield. I'll have to look up which district Sheep Hill comes under now! Many thanks though. Can I ask where you got those details from?
