1790 Sydney Cove Chronicle

I have come across a Newsday Supplement from December 1969 which is a reprint of the Sydney Cove Chronicle dated 30th June 1790. I am in the process of transcribing same.

As well as some revealing articles on the conditions faced by the First Fleet at the end of their first two+ years in the colony, the paper has "A list of the convicts who set sail from Old England's Shores". The list contains "the names of convicts who were to have sailed, or did sail in the transports Neptune, Surprize, Scarsborough and Lady Juliana".

The list only has name (and in some cases an alias), where sentenced and the term given.

I will be able to forward a copy of the transcription when complete to anyone interested, and in the meantime am happy to do any lookups required.

Not a problem - Charlotte is listed as you say "Simpson, Charlotte, alias Hall" having received 7 years transportation.

The list doesn't give any other info, but as I said originally the articles written are interesting.

I promise to get into gear and get it finished, as I have been a bit slack lately.

about Charlotte's world.  Incidentally, she was sent to Norfolk Island where she
met and later married Hugh McGinnis.  Hugh arrived on the Queen from
Ireland in 1791 and they were eventually sent to Tasmania.

It's a fascinating read for anyone interested in early Australian history,
especially those of us with convict ancestors.  How any of them ever survived
is beyond comprehension.

Dear HappyHunter, I would also love a copy of same.  Although my convict ancestor/s weren't on ships mentioned they came at a later date but would have experienced the same rough conditions.  Would love to have a read.  Thank for you for the thoughtful offer.

My ancestors (as well as many others) came over on James Laing and Parmelia/2 et al, for possible associations of being 'White Boys' in Ireland.  Convictions were for 'unlawful oaths' 1830s.  AllyCat Downunder.

By chance does it mentions First Fleeters other than convicts? I'm descended from Robert Watson, quartermaster from the Sirius.
