Emma Rickerds
« on: Sunday 26 February 06 20:42 GMT (UK) »
My gt gt grandfather Edward Gillett b 1848 from Cheltenham married Emma Rickerds b1851 from Cheltenham.  On census night 1871 her brother Henry Rickerds was staying with them.

I can't find any record of either of the Rickerd's birth or anyone or a similar name, or Edward & Emma's marriage.

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks

Hi Sandra!

The International Genealogical Index (www.familysearch.org) shows that Emma Rickerds married Edward Gillett on 5th April 1868 at Bishops Ryder, Birmingham, Warks. The marriage was registered in the district of Birmingham in the Qtr to June 1868.

It also has a record of the christening of 2 of their children, Albert Edward & George, both on 28th May 1871 at Charlton Kings, Glos.

The birth of a Henry William Rickerds was registered in the district of Cheltenham in the Qtr to Dec 1859. Does these details tie in with the Henry you found in the 1871 census?

Also, the birth of Frederick Walter Rickerds was registered in the district of Cheltenham in the Qtr to Mar 1848. Could he be another brother?

Hope this helps!

Yes it does, thanks!  It would tie in with the brother's date of birth showing in the 1871 census.

I just need to find Emma's parents now - my gt gt gt grandparents!

I think I've found them.

1861 census shows a Daniel & Sarah Richards born 1820 Glos & 1819 Derbyshire. The original census actually reads as Rickards.  They have a daughter Emma about the right age & a son Henry born in the right year.

Looking at other records - I think that the correct name should be actually Rickards & not Rickerds
