Death between 1861-1871 Houghton
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 23:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi guys,

I am trying to find the death of Elizabeth Taylor (I know, common name right).

She is in the 1861 census with her husband Thomas and their grandson Thomas (also shown as nephew). On the 1871 census Thomas is a widower living as a boarder.

Elizabeth was born about 1787 in Gateshead (Thomas in 1781 - so give or take a few years for her).

They lived in Houghton-le-Spring and St Giles all their lives and Thomas died in 1872 in Knott, West Rainton - registration district houghton.

I'm in desperate need of finding her death so I can purchase the certificate and get her maiden name.

Thanks,
Kaz

Hi

The FULL BMD index is now available to search free of charge at www.ancestry.co.uk.  You will find it described as England & Wales, BMD Index (Beta)

The partial index (freebmd) can also be searched on the same website or at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

NB:  Buying her death cert will NOT give you her maiden name.  If any of their children were born after 1837, you would be better looking for their birth on the GRO index and getting a copy of the birth certificate.

On occasion, and I consider this a Gift from above, the vicar wrote the maiden name of the mother in the parish records.  With some parishes I have seen this continue to the 1820-1830's and some longer.  You would need to look in those parish records however.  No guarantee.

I don't know what children of this couple you have but there is a marriage in Houghton le Spring 25 Dec 1820 of Thomas Taylor and Elizabeth Gowland.
