Census 1891/1901 & Death - Bartons - COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 20:41 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I have found my Great Grandparents Amelia born 1859 & Barton E Barton born 1856 on the 1881 census with their eldest daughter Amy Amelia, but am unable to locate them on the 1891/1901 census ???

I am also trying to find out when Amelia died  ??? She lived with her husband in Arreton, IOW.  However, they may have moved as I believe he died in Christchurch in 1910.

Any information would really be appreciated.

Thanks

For anybody following this posting who may be able to help I'm copying the response I received from Dollycat in a pm.

Thank you for your reply to my enquiry.

I am confused by your reply  Huh  It does not appear to show Amelia or Barton?

Hope you can clarify for me.

Thanks very much

Dollycat, no I haven't found any trace of either Amelia or Barton, but it would appear that their daughter Amy was boarding in Freshwater.  Often the reason for a youngster to be away from the family may well be that the parents had died and the child was left homeless.  Maybe the Lockes were friends of the family and took her in.

In 1901 Amy is working at "The Osborne", Exeter Road, Bournemouth, which appears to be a boarding house.

Hi Mary,

Thanks for the explanation and for replying so quickly to me.

There were other children born later in the family, so I am not completely convinced that the  'Amy' you have located is part of my family.

I see Barton E stands for Barton Ernest. I can see a matching Ernest Barton in 1891:
RG12/925 77 37
South Stoneham, Hampshire
72 Mount Pleasant Rd

Frank Barton, head, 33, Market Gardener, b. Arreton IOW
Fanny, wife, 33, b. Newchurch IOW
Frank, son, 7, b. South Stoneham Hants
Lucy, dau, 5, b. do.
Fanny, dau, 3, b. do.
Sidney, son, 1, b. do.
Ernest, brother, mar, 34, Garden labourer, b. Arreton IOW
Fanny, neice, 7, b. IOW

Does he look right?

Arreton, Hampshire
Hale Common

Stephen Barton, head, 31, Common carrier, b. Shorwell? IOW
Ann, wife, 30, b. Arreton
George, son, 6, b. do.
Frederick, son, 4, b. do.
Jane, dau, 2, b. do.
William Salter, nephew, 14, 16, ag lab, b. do.
Sarah, niece, 14, b. do.

Tanja  :)

Wonder if this Sarah is his 2nd wife?

There were other children born later in the family

Do you know their names, birth years and birth places?

Tanja  :)

PS. Have you noticed there is a 'Salter' with Amy in 1891? I certainly wouldn't doubt she's the the right one.
